What are the main differences between EL and EL2??

more features on the base model like duel air bags on the futura and front power windows on the base GLI. They also retuned the suspention and made a S pack avalible again with the tickford suspention.
no changes to the exterior or interior though.
absolutley brillient car though I had one and loved every minute in it.

see www.redbook.com.au it was release in Feb 1998.
Red book will also tell you the stuff fitted as standard on those cars.

I can assure you that dual airbags was reserved for the Fairmont Ghia until the AU II made the feature standard on all models - unless the EL II had it, then it was dropped with the AU I (which I doubt).

Similarly, electric front windows became standard on the AU update in '99 (as distinguished from the 2000 AU series II).

The big change was a 185 kW engine for the XR8. However, I am not convinced that EL series II should be called that. I still refer to it as the EL update.

My series II Futura had duel air bags and it was optional on the series II GL sapphire.

I have asked Ford about this and was imformed by them that there is no series 2 EL. As the EL only ran from 96 to 98.I was told as well that there were plans for a series 2 EL but the AU was brought forward earlier than planned so the series 2 was axed.

That makes sense to me, however there was definitely an update of some kind. It obviously stopped short of being a proper series II with badges, etc.

I think you might mean a runout model on the EL as they were moving to a new model(AU) they offered added accessories on the last of the 98 ELs.
