DJR Racing

Dick Johnson Racing is located at 10 Emeri Street, Stapylton QLD.
It's open to the public between:
Monday to Friday: 9.30am - 5.00pm
Saturday: 9.30am - 3.00pm
Sunday & Public Holidays: CLOSED

Anyone been here? What's the go, do you just turn up? Cost anything to have a look and is it easy to find?? I will be driving from Brissie to the Gold Coast in a few weeks would like to have a squizz. I saw all of the race cars in his museum race at Bathurst in my youth, not really interested in the new stuff.

Re: DJR Racing

Yes I used to live in Bathurst. I went to the race every year from 82 to 89 and have been back a few times since. Might go this year as I know some people who want to go who have never been. We used to live next door to the NRMA garage in town where they would scrutineer the cars after the race. They would drive them down from the track with on the public streets. I remember seeing Dick's blue XE in there with the heads off. He turned up in his private black XE (DJR-17) and signed a poster for me. I was about 13. I never saw the blue XD race unfortunately. I was there when he crashed the green one in '83. I was in the back of the pits when they bought the last one in in '84. I was there for the Mustang, Sierras and the first EB. My school did a press information service thingy in '87 and I was assigned to Mark Skaife , at his first Bathurst. He was driving a Nissan Gazelle. We had to lead them out on the track and he started around the corner in Conrod straight. Bathurst was a round of the world touring car championship in '87. Won by Brock after the first 2 Sierras were disqualified. We were told it was beacuse their tyres were too wide. It was the first year of the the new pits that have just been pulled down. Moffat (ANZ Sierra) team was in pit 1 with Mick Webb as the team manager. We were in pit 2. Glenn Seton, George Fury and Mark Skaife. Team boss was Fred Gibson. How about that Skaife started driving a Nissan in a team run by a retired Ford driver (Bathurst winner?) with a future Ford championship winner (Seton) Enough of my waffling on.......

Re: DJR Racing

xcgxl I have been there. it may pay to call first to check for tour times.

we went when they were getting the cars ready for a race and it had been raining so we weren't able to get into the transporter.

definately a must see. Turn off at the north yatala turnoff, straight through the roundabout and it is on your right next to the drive in.

i was very impressed with the whole setup. The tour is definately worth the cover charge. They had a DJR320 under covers which we managed to lift and have a sneak peek before the launch :)

Re: DJR Racing

Cool thanks. I will give them a call. Going up in the next school holidays. Thankfully its not QLD school holidays so I might get a look in :-) DJR 320. I saw one at the Holden vs Ford Show 2 weekends ago. Would anyone really pay $95,000 for a Falcon??

Re: DJR Racing

I went in the begining of the year. Although i was unable to go do the tour, the showroom is just beautiful. I was lucky enough to see Dick there and I got to see him drive off in his nice DJR320.

Its a must if your in QLD.
there is very little signage on the freeway to let u know where it is, but just follow the map and youl be sweet.

Re: DJR Racing

I went there a couple of years ago, well worth the visit, and the tour if you get there on the right day.
It is next to a drive in, you turn left there (at the driving), if your coming from the highway.

Would it be in the Brisbane street Directory? I can pick one up with the rental car. I had trouble finding the Birdwood museum because it wasnt on the Adelaide map, this is why I ask.
