Interested in knowing if this oil usage is as widespread as it appears in some of the forum threads.

The problem with problems is you hear about them. No one really ask's about is it normal that nothings wrong! Which of course is natural cause nothing is supposed to be wrong! But it does'nt take long for a few comments about something thats not normal to sound like a widespread prob.

My baby has'nt chewed a drop BUT she's only got 2000 clicks up. In fact the oil is only just starting to turn from clear to ..well a bit darker!!? I have been watching it carefully, oil's well!

When I Took My Pursuit In For Its 3000km Inspection Service I Told Them That The Engine Was Starting To Get Extremely Noisy On Start Up. I Asked Them To Change The Oil Filter And Oil At This Service. When I Picked Up My Car That Afternoon They Told Me That The Oil Levels Were Very Low And That Was Why The Engine Was Noisy On Start Up. Since This Service I Have Kept A Keen Eye On My Oil Levels. I Now Have 7000km On The Clock And Since My Last Service My Pursuit Has Used 4ltrs Of Oil. 1ltr Per 1000km. I Rang My Local Ford Service Center And Asked What Was The Usual Oil Usage For A 290kw Fpv, I Was Told That Up To 1ltr Per 1000km Was Within Normal Limits , (just), But To Keep An Eye On Its Consumption, And If It Didnot Start To Slow In Its Consumption By 10,000km To Bring The Car In And Then They Would Take A Closer Look At It. At Present The Oil Consumption Is Still Steady And Dosnt Apear To Be Slowing, The Discolouration Of The Oil Is Also Bad, At 40000km With A 4ltr Topup The Oil Is Black. I Wouldnt Trust Fords 15000km Service Suggestions Though.

I'm right with you there mate. I will change mine at 5000. She's brand new and you can bet her biggest wear rate is right now as things sort themselves out. So I'll be tossing out that batch for nice new oil.

I used 500mls in the first 15000km. The ute is also driven fairly hard and I don't poof it around! So I have no problems with oil consumption. Would't mind a quite power steering pump though!

No oil usage for me, im gunna change my oil soon , just hit 10,000k's last week.

WHEN I BOUGHT THE UTE A MATE OF MINE BOUGHT A GT, GOT A GREAT PRICE WHEN YOU BUY 2 FPVS, THE GT HAS USED ABOUT 250ML OF OIL IN 2500KMS, ITS STILL USING OIL BUT IS ONLY USING A SMALL AMOUNT.

mine used a bit between 3500-7000ks and then nothing .. now at near 18000.
It's just the whining of a few that makes people think there is a huge problem. There are problems for sure, but not of the magnitude you would think.

I've used 2ltrs of oil in 12500km of travel, but will be changeing the oil today from a 0w40 to a 15w60, as the guy from Penrite said a 0w oil will still work at -35c, i know the mornings can be cold but not that cold.
