Re: Does your Boss 260/290 use more than 500ml oil per 1000kms?

i work for toyota and i have a mate that works for ford and we both put castrol magnatec oil in them dont know what viscosity it has but thats what ford use as a stock oil for them so we do aswell

Magnatec is Factory standard at Ford? are you for real.

To check oil - Get engine at operating temp, turn off engine, wait 10-15 minutes, lift bonnet, remove dipstick, wipe dipstick with clean rag, put dipstick back in, leave there a few seconds, pull dipstick out and check oil level!!!!!!

Thanx.
doesn't matter, but for comparison or consumption tests, retain either method so to keep it a controlled experiment.

Re: Does your Boss 260/290 use more than 500ml oil per 1000kms?

My friend got his GT at the same time i got my BA XR8. Mine has 7,000ks hasnt used a drop of oil. Just about to give it a oil change. My mates GT has had a engine rebuild after 12 months arguing with Ford. It was using over 1lt every thousand kms. Apparently the early Boss 290kw motors the rings were too hard and they schorched the bores. Well thats what my friend was told by one of the Ford FPV dealers he contacted. The engine was rebuilt just after 10,000kms

I'd say rings were too hard and didn't bed in properly..I would assume he should have driven it harder to bed rings in? There is a short time to do this while bore is unglassed..Or they won't bed / wear in properly.
.Unless its ring flutter that happens to Genlll's this happens at hi rpm with light throttle where NO load is on rings and too much ringland clearance.....

I feel sorry for those """associated whingers"""...that shelled out big bucks and got an oil problem....one they did not want, or pay for. That above comment, is just a further insult to those who do have genuine problem & are trying to work through it. I'm certainly happy your car is fine as with many others, but some do have some serious problems & their not associated whingers for saying so.

Plenty of stars in your eyes BOY....and lot of sh*t outa ya mouth too....

Well said….. if it was not for those people saying something on here, no one would know what was going on. Isn’t this what this forum is all about letting people know what’s going on wether it’s good or bad.

In relation to oil burn my FPV Ute has used 4L in 4000 clicks
