Got the dreaded brake shudder in the XR8 at about 15,000kms last week. Rung up the ford dealer to book it in... Took it in this morning at 8:30am, phone call at 10am - 'your car is ready'!

They had put brand new brakes in. The WHOLE kit. disks, pads etc. I thought they only skimed the disks?

Not that im complaning.

If only my dealer was this helpful.

I've now got 20,000km. So far 4 machinings, now new discs (not pads) & still got the shudder.

My XR8 has only just started to have some brake shudder at about 24 000k's. It's going in today to have something done about it. Hope it's an easy fix.

I fitted DBA Slotted rotors with bendix advance pads at 20,000 k's now I have done 55,000 k's and they have been magnificent so far.....

I think i've read somewhere that after 3 disc machinings you get the whole replacement? I would be asking anyway

Gremin, was this the 1st time you've had brake shudder?

That's correct,

There has been a fix on BAs from September 03 onwards. Supposedly BAs after this build date shouldn't suffer from shudder. They shimmed the calipers.

I've racked up 12000 on mine and haven't had a problem. I'm going to replace my rotors with DBAs anyway.

At the third skim, they also put the shim kit in and it supposedly shouldn't happen again. Mines in today after 3 skims/shim kit and is getting new disks @ 29,500k's.

Its also not coming back until a driveline vibe is fixed, they loaned me a GT for a couple of days :)

If the manufacture date of your vehicle was after OCT 03 then it's a requirement of Ford warranty that the rotors are replaced and not machined.

Had the brake work done on my XR8 again. This time they told me they took out the old shims and put in the upgrade. So far they haven't shuddered. The new shims are supposed to take the heat away from the pad. Hopefully no more rotor warp. BTW, the even wheel nut torquing didn't stop the brakes from shuddering when hot. But its probably not a bad idea to torque them evenly.
