ED Fairmont - pros & cons

As the title suggests - my brother is looking at buying an ED fairmont - is there anything in particular that he should be looking for/at?

From what I have been told/know ED's are the pick over EA/B, better trans (its auto) & diff?

It is 4.0L, other than that he wasnt able to tell me much, trans has been recon'd, its dumped on its arse and has some nice rims on it. He's a bit naieve like that! Hate to see him get ripped though!

Any help/advice much appreciated1

Cheers, Cheyne

Ask the owner what has been replaced on it e.g. solenoids on transmission, any electrical components, injectors, air intake, suspension, any overheating problems or head or block machining.

Trust me, they all cause problems and they all cost money to fix.

Re: ED Fairmont - pros & cons

Hi
Check oil colours, particularly tranny, should be pink, these had factory coolers on them so shouldnt be too bad. I had one & I killed tranny at a very hard 395000kms. They are stronger than people give credit. The motor check for coolant seeping between head & block, if present head gasket & head bolts need doing. check for general oil leaks, check air con/heater functon and change its blow position. Blendor motors are behind the dash and fail. Can be expensive if you cant do it yourself as dash & a/c needs to be evacuated of gas to do it. check for rust on & behind the sills near front mudflaps & at front of back wheel. Also in front door hinges. Generally a good allround vehicle that shouldn't get too much in trouble.
My 2c worth
Hope it helps

Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject...
