1) ef xr8 with 9/95 build date is series 1 or 2?

2) does the ef xr8 have the 175kw engine?

My understanding is that the EL XR8 got the slightly more powerful engine with a modified exhaust, but I'm unsure of details. The EF series II was introduced in October '95, so you're probably talking about the one of last of the early series

The EF XR8 has a 169kw engine.

XR8 Engine:
5.0 litre OHV (over head valve) V8.
169 or 170kw @ 4500 rpm depending on who you listen to... (up from 165kW in ED).
398Nm @ 3000 rpm (up from 388Nm in ED).

The XR6 actually beat the XR8 of this model, although, the 8 has a fair bit more torque which gives it the edge..

where did ya get that info from?????

in the printed brochure i had it says 165kw, as is the EL1 XR8

only EL2 XR8 got the upgrade

well i just thought about it, and you could be correct...............
no more clutch Fan = about 5kw gain
but it did say 165kw in the EF XR8 brochure i had. wish i could find it

Reason for the questions is that i am looking at buying one...the only mods to the car are a set of extractors and a new dual exhaust system...although it's an auto, it sounds unbelievable and is firghteningly quick off the mark and when asked to it accelerates in the best possible manner...how much would the extractors and the exhaust add to kw output

BTW...Its a 95 EF with 120k on the clock...looking at paying $14500 for it...I think its good value but would appreciate some feedback

The EL2 XR8 has 185KW and runs a 15.6 quater mile. Although I read that someone bought one stock and ran a 15.3 at Willowbank with an auto with the stock 3.45 LSD.

FPV says this:
An extractor exhaust system similar to the EL GT's, a larger throttle body, revised Explorer inlet manifolds and tweaking of the latest EEC V system lifted power output up to 185 kW with a small torque increase.

Form memory, going back to 1996.

EF XR6 = 164KW 3.45-1
EF Standard V8 = 165KW
EF XR8 = 170KW, redline@5,500 rpm 3.23-1
EL XR8 = 172KW, redline@5,000 rpm
ELIIXR8 = 185KW

Cannot remember much else without actually doing some research. I know for a fact about the EF's as i have owned mine from new and have always had an interest in comparisons to the new models as they came out.
