Hi guys,

Just got a question to see if anyone has the same sort of problem. My EL XR6 has a rough idle. When I am sitting at the traffic lights you can feel the car shake and every now and then it has a very rough spurt and then evens out to normal sort of idle. Anyone have this same sort of problem or have an idea of what be causing this to happen. Also my car is a manual and the rough idle seems to go away when i have the air conditioner turned on and the car is cold in the morning it seems to idle fine. Once it warms up thou it idles rough.

AAhhhh, Yeah mine does it on occasion, Its a manual also. I've noticed when the aircon is on that the ECU raises idle speed to compensate for the aircon being on, this is why it seemingly goes away.

I'm just about to clean my idle sensor thing so hopefully if you do that then the prob will go away.. Theres a Doco on the internet saying how its done so i have to look for it and i'll let you know

Thanks for the advice guys, I have looked done the usual sort of check's, Spark Plugs, Timing, Leads and have had no luck with all of those. I might just send it to a ford dealer and get them to check it out. Any more ideas before i send it off would be great.

It could also be dirty injectors.

I think all manuals are like it. My old manual EF XR6 did exactly as XR6child explained.
I replaced all the injectors, new leads, new plugs and cleaned ICS spotless but it never idled as well as an auto EF 6 pot. Even my manual BA XR6 isn't much better.

It appeared to be more like a missfire, it could be caused by arcing of the plug leads (even if they are new), start the car up at night, pop the bonnet and look for any arcing, especially where the plug leads gather and on the dizzy cap.
