EL XR8/GT Snorkel

Hi Guys,

Will a EL XR8/GT snorkel fit a 6cyl EL Falcon without drilling new holes like the xr8 AU snorkel? Are they physically alot larger than the standard intakes? Any pics would be great.

I have read the article about installing the $30 AU XR8 Snorkel but I don't particularly want to drill any new holes in the panel work. Would prefer to use the existing mounting screws.

Cheers Luke

Thats it, they will fit straight on. And yes they are a lot larger than the standard one, in fact they are suppose to even flow a tiny bit more than the AU one.

Re: EL XR8/GT Snorkel

I managed to fit an AU one onto my EF with no need to drill any new holes.

Re: EL XR8/GT Snorkel

I've changed mine over to the XR8/GT one. On the EL Fairmont V8s Ford stuck the standard 6 cylinder one on from the factory!

Here is a couple of pics comparing the two, the size difference is pretty huge.

I did the same, very easy, no extra holes in the metal work but a new hole in the intake.

There is a big difference there with the EL one and the stock EF, looking from those pics. But I like having the cool Tickford wings on my AU XR8 snorkel :s5

Re: EL XR8/GT Snorkel

Thanks for the photo fairmont1998, I didn't realise they were that much larger, nearly double the size. Definately going ahead with this mod, as it would difinately improve airflow into the airbox and thus getting a few KW's.

Is this the right part no for the snorkel?
(EFTVE 9A624 A) which includes the EF XR8, EL XR8 and the EL GT. $40.60 inc GST.

Fairmont 1998: Did you notice any improvments after putting the snorkel in?

I have chosen not to get the AU snorkel because the rubber on the bonnet that seals the engine bay heat from the snorkel entrance does not look like it would fit the AU XR8 snorkel properly and in efffect probably would bloke some of the air flow.

Cheers Luke.

Thats the part number, use to be around $30 but I guess they have gone up a bit seeing they are getting old stock.

Re: EL XR8/GT Snorkel

I hope they still have a few left in stock, if they don't I will have to get an AU XR8 snorkel. Anyone got a pic of a AU XR8 snorkel using the existing screw mounts on the EF/EL 6cyl falcon.

Thanks again Darin for the pics. I spent ages trying to find comparison photo's because all I could find was the AU snorkel pics.

Cheers Luke.

Re: EL XR8/GT Snorkel

I have just looked at the SS inductions site and they claim a gain of upto 7kw and there snorkel doesn't look any bigger and they want $300. stuff that. I will let you know if i get any noticeable gains or smoother acceleration.

Cheers Luke.
