Basically i wanted to know peoples opinions about different extractors/brands. (ie good, excelent, better than, not as good as, dont go near them)
And peoples experience with them.
Here are some brands, and my understanding of them:
Pacemaker- been told these are probably the best, and most expensive
Lukey/walker- ok but not as good as pacemaker, $200 cheaper but
Genie- not as good as theyre ment to be, expensive
Wildcat- cheapest around, told theyre reasonable
NOTE this is based on what i've been told, most of which is from the sales man.
Heres what i was quoted, All from places north of perth. And fitted
Pacemakers $535 From quikfit
Lukey$380 from greenwod exh, $355 from midas
Wildcat $240-270 from quikfit
Walker $355 from midas
just for interest 2.5' cat back exh averaged $220-280 with lukey, berklee. I went lukey for $230
All mild steel
I'm pretty sure the mocks have their own design, but when i was talking to them, they said that there's not a lot of difference between their's and lukeys (which i have)...
I'm VERY happy with my lukeys, but i found them to be more expensive ($350ish) than pacemakers ($300ish), although everyone i've spoken to seems to think the lukeys are better than the pacemakers.
FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD, the following would be an approximate order from best to worst (not factoring in price!):
- HM
- Lukey
- Pacemaker
- Genie
- Wildcat
I have a set of pacemakers on mine with a full 2 and half inch exhaust. The power gain was awesome and the note is great. I am pretty sure you can buy pacemakers off Ebay for about $280.
Ive heard nothing but good things about the Mock Headers, the only thing that comes to mind is the fact that theyre press bent, but apparently they found no benefit from using mandrel bent piping. They certainly do charge like theyre mandrel bent though, near enough to 500 big ones
i have a set of HM on the big Brock falcon with a walker/lukey
2 1/2" from cat back & 2 1/2 straight pipe over the diff with no muffler. ( the cat is free flowing ) sounds good with the stage 3 crow can & chip torque chip....................go's good to
Hey kjoy064 I have HM's as well did you opt for the cat as part of the extrators,I did.And did you have trouble fitting them up.Iam on my 3rd set,the first set rubbed on the swaybar and didn't line up same with the 2nd but the third were perfect.Apparantly they were made for EF onwards and the third set I got were the prototypes for EA onwards.I gianed 12kw with 2/14 system from standard.Sice then I have gone 2 1/2 and beyond. All and all Iam happy with them.
Did he say why? When some guy I don't know tells me something is shit without any reason he has about as much credibility as those bogans that tell you that Fords are shit.
I noticed nearly no performance difference going from the standard XR headers to the pacemakers. It was a little bit louder but that was about it.
When I upgraded from the pacemakers to the JMM headers I noticed the difference straight away. The car felt a lot faster and was happy to rev all to way to redline. With the pacemakers it felt like it was losing power in the top end.

:1poke:
he told me that they are very poor quality (welds etc)
he then quoted me $600 For the Hi-Techs, high flow cat fitted.
These days most of the time you get what you pay for.
e.g. JMM most likely charge more than wildcat because more testing has been used, more time has been spent on the design etc etc etc...
I have not seen the wildcats myself, so I'm not saying they are shit, the bloke did
Cheers
Mason.
Damn mate maybe I'll be letting you know how I go LOL :hy:
Mason.
PS: gotta get my suspension first though so dont know when I'll be getting them. Maybe 7 weeks away.
i got HM(are they really that good thanatos? sweet! come to think of it, the phase 3 GTHO extractors were made by HM too..) on my car, but i think i could've gained more power and torque if i went for a set with slightly smaller primaries. the HMs are 1 5/8" size where for my car, since its pretty much stock i should've got ones with 1 1/2" primaries.. if i do my motor up a bit then the larger pipes will show their worth.
from what i've read and been told, shorter fatter primaries help make big numbers up top, longer thinner pipes do oppisite, but give nice torque low down. (also depends on engines state of tune)
tuned length jobs only really come into play at high revs with big power.. dont bother paying for that, if someone trys.
I've had 2 quotes, $1,500 from Fisher, but their shop blew up
$2,000 from D&T, with dyno time, but the bloke said he would knock it down a bit
These prices were for pacemakers, stainless twin 2 1/4 pipes, cats, twin mufflers in front of the diff, then 2 pipes out the back (on the right) with a rear resonator if I want (which I don't)
