my car keeps getting stuck in 3rd gear, at first i thought it was a transmission problem. Now the weird thing is it does start in third, but just after i have driven it a little say 10km or so, i put it in 2nd and turn off the car at about 40km and switch it back on and sometimes it recovers from this so called home limp mode and goes back to normal

(by normal i mean all gears seem to be working and the car is no longer stuck in just 3rd gear)

and mind u it stays this way until i turn it off again for long periods of time. One of my friends said its the ECU try resetting it or change etc. I tried to reset it with no luck, could anyone please just pin point what could be causing this before i waste money fixing something that is already fixed.

took it to a transmission specialist today he said my shift solenoid has gone and will need replacing. $300 for it, i might aswell get another second hand transmission since its only going to cost me $550

Is it a difficult job to fit the solenoid on that model. If it is external then perhaps you can simply get a 2nd hand solenoid and fit it. Maybe even cheaper.
