As you can see they would be fairly closely spec'd. Fairmont Ghia Turbo would only have a 4 speed auto. If the the car was equiped with a 5 or 6 speed auto from else where, then it really would narrow the gap even more, no doubt helping the Ghia's performance, NVH, weight, economy etc.
Sure the BMW has some gizmo's, some other trinkets. Ford has the more conservative styling. But very much in each others ball park on paper in everything except price. While the Ford may be noiser on the road, its nothing some added noise insulation and some stereo volume couldn't help close the gap of.
As for a forced six being in the engine bay rather than a N/A V8. Well the V8 in the Fairmont is going to add some chunky weight, and there have been plenty of other forced asperated cars in this market, Audi's, subu's, jags, etc.
you cant really compare a hypethetical car with a real car, of corse a made up car can be better then anything else on the road.
but yes i do agree, a boosted Ghia would be nice, but give it more original styling to tell it apart from the rest of the range, like what holden has done for the vyII calais, the only thing you can rally tell the difference from a standard falc and a ghia is the wheels and the boot reverse lights

Yes the Ghia Turbo is not real, but extremely close to a XR6 Turbo in specifications when optioned with a luxury pack.
Perhaps a unique yet subtle front bumper, with sufficent cooling for boosted engines would be the go. However, I think the close related looks of the Ghia might pay off, real sleeper, verse say the XR range which make a very bold statement.
This puts some conservative buyers off, those that want something pretty quick, well equiped with out all the bling bling.
A Ghia turbo would be a serious consideration when I was to go a new vehicle. When I shopped for my EF, I got the tickford XR6 donk in it. I can't see why Ford couldn't offer a turbo luxo barge option?
They do, buy an XR6 Turbo with the Luxury pack and get a whole lot more car for about the same price as a Fairmont Ghia. Then stick a few bits of chrome on the bumpers and chrome rear number plate garnish and you have urself an XR6 Turbo Ghia.
Yes, but in some circles, trying to get paperwork through for a "modified XR6 Turbo" would be a hell of alot harder than say a normal Ghia.
I've seen Ghia's with XR fronts. So I guess now I have to go around and convince a dealer to put a Ghia front on a XR6T and then he can flog off the Ghia with a XR front on it..
I do belive that the luxury pack doesn't quiet = Ghia interior. Velour lined glovebox, boot lining etc I think are not included, there are possibly others.
Hahahah Wow, no velour in the glovebox, no lights in the doors. I think the Turbo wheels, foglamps, body kit, spoiler and colour range make up for door lights and a velour glovebox, which mind you can be easily added at a small cost. To get a Fairmont Ghia, put decent 17's on it, full body kit, spoiler would cost alot more then it would to put boot carpet in a Turbo, velour glovebox etc.
The only thing the Ghia has over the Turbo LP is reverse sensors, electric pedals and an electric seat.
