Fairmont Ghia, what to pay?

Hi All

I'm hoping to win this at auction next week:
http://www.territoryautoauctions.com...m_id=650001265

What would you pay for an AU3 Fairmont Ghia as above? It still has some manufacturer warranty left so I can get any niggly problems sorted out (if any).

Based on past history of these auctions the Fairmont Ghia's seem to go for about $23-25k. They rarely seem to get many bids, with most people paying between $16 and $20k for the Forte's and $20-22k for the Futuras and base Fairmonts.

I've set my limit at $27k and am hoping it is realistic.

Thanks

Adam

Paid $25300 for an AUII Ghia (same colour and specs as the above at Fowles in Melbourne) with about 43000k's on it, when it was just over a year old.
Your gonna nudge your $27k limit to drive it home.

Re: Fairmont Ghia, what to pay?

Now I'm getting worried! As I got finance approval up to $28,000 ($1k above what I'm willing to pay, so I can pay rego and stamp duty).

One advantage I have is that the auctions up here generally have at most 150 people showing up.

Two months ago, a red AU2 Fairmont Ghia with leather, 20000kms went for $22000. The lower km ones seem to go for around $23k although I have seen a black one which was only a few months old and had under 10,000km go for $25250.

I guess I'll wait and see. If I don't manage to pick this one up under $27k, I'll wait til the next one appears. I'm definitely hoping for a bargain (under $25k).

Re: Fairmont Ghia, what to pay?

The thing is I don't actually need to settle for a Fairmont :) There hasn't been any auction sales of Fairmont Ghia's in Darwin for more than $25250, for one that was practically brand new.

I'll bid for it up to 27, and see how it goes, and let you all know what price I got it for.

The links to Pickles you've posted are very expensive compared to here. Even the car yards sell them for cheaper here.

Why not just get a fairmont, basically the only difference is leather and the VCT motor, which doesnt mean much.
Well there are a few other differences.....

The Ghia has IRS, it is basicly a XR6VCT auto with a nicer interior and a quieter exhaust.
It also has the 6 stacker CD better mags (maybe 17s) and a few other gizmos.
The auto tranny has a more agressive change pattern than the fairmont.

I never traded my AU2 Ghia when I bought the GTP as they only offered me $25k and I thought for that much I would keep it. (It is good for towing the trailer)

Cheap mods for it: XR8 airbox $27, genuine tickford suspension (springs and shockys) $900, Cat back exhaust (make HEAPS of difference) $290

Either way mate, that's a good price considering the age of the car and it's klm's and being a Ghia, they were pushing $50,000 brand new just remember,if you can afford it I'd say go for it,as long as she is mechanically sound.

The joys of buying a car in Darwin is you will pay more than southern states prices.
If you buy let me know and I may be able to get some history if it is a NT fleet car.

More? I was just explaining how people are paying substantially less, in Darwin, for Fairmont Ghias.

The market here for a car like that is very small. Most of them are from the NT University (the Deans are provided with a Fairmont Ghia).

I really don't think its true that you'll pay more in Darwin, in general. The total market here is much smaller, and it can take 3 months to sell most cars (it took us that long to sell a '98 RAV4 low kms @ $14k). Most people give in and sell for a price much below what they were expecting/advertising for.
