Finally got rid of the clutch fan

Wohoo.

So after taking the clutch fan and shroud off we found the volvo thermo was to wide so it needed to be trimmed. We trimmed it back and it just fits in comfortably. wire it up, screw it on and walah.
Car goes a little better now, revs alot more freely and the thermo cools it down very well.
I was going to get EL thermos, but i saved alot of money by using this volvo thermo. Currently a few of my mates have these on there cars; EA Spack, ZH farilane 351, VH commodore 308 , TC cortina 6cyl, VK 6cyl.

Mate can get cheap volvo thermos if anyone wants one pm me and i can sort it out. $50 each.

Anyone who still has there clutch fan, piss it off! they are useless!

Re: Finally got rid of the clutch fan

Its the best mod i had ever done.
Did mine 5 years ago, and never had any problems with the fans, until they got killed in the crash.

You serious, best mod? If so I would love to get this done. Your not exaggerating?
Can someone explain just how much better the car feels afterwards?

Re: Finally got rid of the clutch fan

Great stuff EED, good to see.

I'm still yet to install mine but considering a good percentage of all noise the car makes now is from those stupid fans, I'm expecting it to be nice and quiet. Also better performance, fuel efficiency, quicker warming up (for less engine wear and lower emissions) and the sound you do hear will actually be good - the engine.

Re: Finally got rid of the clutch fan

A great mod, never had issues with mine until the dodgy wiring earthed a positive wire and blew fuses, resulting in a rather warm engine bay.

oooops.

Re: Finally got rid of the clutch fan

I wouldn't say best mod, but they are pretty damn good. Engine heats up quicker, a hell of a lot quieter and the engine revs way better.

Re: Finally got rid of the clutch fan

yea i love them...

Also another good thing is like last weekend when i replaced my water pump, it takes no time at all to pull them out, and you have full access to everything.

When Rollin and I were installing the thermos after four hours of trying to remove the clutch fan we gave up as it was on to tight. I will never have that problem again!!!
