FINALLY! I got some pipes!

Ladies and Gentlemans, after about a year or so (back to the ford.18 days) of whinging and whining about getting my extractors.........i finally done it.

Settled for the hurricanes over the lukeys, nice and cheap and they were the only 'full' header about from the HM's i could find (ie the secondaries ran under the car straight to the cat)

Man, its opened her right up now, i know my last cat was blocked, but whoooo boy......the only issues i have with it are it now sounds stock at idle, but at 1500/1700 rpm (basically cruise speeds in 4th) it drones its tits off. But only with throttle applied, so on flat highways it shouldnt be a problem, as i tend to only use light throttle.

Gave it a hiding on the way home, fuel guage hardly moved, but wont be able to give accurate fuel consumption reports till i drive it more.

my pod filter and EF airbox set up really help it along too i think :)

Got the work done at Lee's Exhaust on moss street, very good blokes to work with, highly recommend them. I paid 450 for the headers and cat installed, with mew flanges welded onto my existing 2.5in redback zorst with the one baffled muff....might look into a hotdog or something next....

Thats what im doing:) I dont get drone, just too loud.

When i got my system done i didnt think it gave that much more power...that was until i had i removed and put on my soon to be new car. Went heaps slower without it.

Youll probably find you fuel economy wont drop much- as youll be flooring it more, and trying to make it sound nicer.:)

Good work

Jase

Top stuff!!

Glad to hear your happy with it, and that the guys did a good job on the install.
Remember to keep an eye on surrounding wires as the extra heat from the extractors might start melting things.

Take care

SWEET MATE!! i had a look at a set of hurricanes and i personally reckon they look like a 50/50 mix of pacemakers and JMM - smaller pipes than pacemakers (IMHO are better) smoother bends, but still look like they would work better than JMM...

anyway - give the exhaust a few days to 'burn in' it sounds strange but it takes a while before it all settles and gives the right note.

good luck!

thanks boys

yer, have been floggin the ring out of it the past coupla days, looks like im getting about 180k's from a quarter of a tank, pure city commuting. Thats not too bad in my books.

Also, feeling adventurous i got under the car and gave my auto a service. I cheated in that i only dropped the pan and dumped 4 litres, but the plan is to do this every 5000 k's till fluid comes clean.

man, its made a difference! I didnt realise how much crap was in my box. Metal fragments were at a minimum but the other garbage i found was shocking. It doesnt clunk downchanging anymore, kicks back at will, and is generally a lot nicer to drive.

I think thats going to be it for the mods for now, manual would be nice but she really needs a paint job and something done as far as wheels go.......that said, a cam and XR spec head would only complement the headers.... :)

Anyone considering extractors, go for it

Great stuff man! About that tranny service, it sounds like a good idea. I really should do that with mine, as the shift quality isn't anything to write home about at the moment...

Is this right?? why does it take auto fluid??

There SHOULD be a hex plug on the right hand side... Its not covered in dirt is it?

And yeah they do take auto fluid. The heavier gearbox oil makes the shifts really crunchy.
