Hey guys,
Currently my XE has a 250 x-flow out of an XF. its recently rebuilt and goes hard for a 6cl. I have decided to drop a v8 into the XE to do it more justice as it is a good looking car. anyone that looks at the car thinks it is a v8 already. its got a fresh coat of red paint and a nice interior :)
I have purchased a running 302 cleveland.
getting the engine stripped at the moment.
-Acid dip the block and head. clean both.
-get the head cleaned up. no real machine work though just a clean up.
-setup for unleaded
-check the bore and prob go 30thou if its standard.
-Full ACL larry perkins rebuild kit
-Edelbrock performer dual plane manifold
-Either a 465cfm 4bl Holley or a 600cfm.
-new stage 1 or 2 cam and lift kit.
-XE currently has borgwarner 4spd and standard diff. staying aslong as they last.
-Pacemaker extractors and 2 3/4 pipe. single.
-Pro-Comp electronic dizzy and coil setup
Now this is only a budget rebuild. only gunna spend $5000 max this round. 2mnth period i guess it will take. (mates rates take time to get done)
Now what i need to know, lol (alot), is what will i need to do to get the v8 in and running. I will need to get a V8 radiator for starters but i dont know much more than that.
- v8 radiator
- starter motor spacer
- bell housing ( what else is involved? )
- is the brake system fine as it is? front disc, rear drum. will i need anything?
I am not sure what else i will need to do. i am hoping to work it all out so i have nothing jump up on me.
Also should i get the 465cfm Holley or the 600cfm? i want the engine to go hard around town and have torque around the 1200-6000rpm mark. rounding out at something like 5,500rpm. Will the 465cfm allow this without resticting the engine? or will the 600cfm be to much and waste fuel?
hope that all made sence and someone can help me.
Thanks in advance:)
With the pacemakers make sure you get the try-y type. These seem to be better for the street. I think you also need all the emission gear to have the v8 in an xe & I don't think you can have a drum brake rear, all the v8's came with 4wd I think.
Good luck with it mate.Xe's are an awesome car.
thanks Gambit. becuase its an older v8 from a VB i dont i have to do any emmission gear? no sure. i have a ED LTD air filter to go on.
i am getting the try-y type :)
as for ther drum i am pretty sure som v8's comve out with drum, i hope so.
anyone else?....
pracy how did u get a 302c from a VB??? and unfortunately u have to have 4 wheel disc brakes, the other thing i would look at is suspension, also just be careful that the extractors don't hit the floor under the passangers seat, because i had a mate who put a V8 with tri-y's in an XE that origanally had a 6 banger in it and it hit the floor when he nailed it.
arh yeah i will watch the extractors, didn't think of that.
Front springs i knew, just forgot to add. :)
lol i meant XB, doubt i could have fit a holden engine in :)
as for the rear disc brake i am spewing, that adds a fair bit more cost. everyone i have talked to locally havn't mentioned that brake change. i was told the later 6's were brought out with brakes better then the earlier v8's ever comer out with.??
if not, how much is a diff with rear end disc brakes go for?
