I have a problem i've got a 87 xf falcon which after 5mins or so the engine stalls now i have both gas and petrol and it happens on both.. Some mechanic say it the ignition modul but it doesn't have one. same say its the tramsmission but $800 is a lot if it doesn't fix the problem. while it idles the car is fine and seems nothing is wrong. Rang many ford techincans they have no idea

Re: Ford XF Falcon stalls

My old XF used to do the same thing before I got rid of it - is it carb or EFI?

Mine was carb though the stall behavior wasn't consistent with any fuel supply issue - I suggest you check/replace your distributor cap for any cracks and possibly replace your "ECM" (the computerised engine management device located behind the front passenger side kick panel).

Re: Ford XF Falcon stalls

i know with my xf (carby) that the idle screw may not be screwed in enough or it maybe the choke is buggerd so when your engine heats up the choke stays on and the motor will die because their isnt enough air to keep it alive and will be even worse if you put it in gear and if its an efi it can be ur ignitor so just try changing spark plugs, leads disributor cap points if carb and the rotor button and coil
