FPV Reverse Sensors - Fit XR ??

Hello...

I have another stupid question. Ive been wondering about this for a while. Does anyone know whether the FPV reverse sensors (seen on the GT / GTP as an option) can be fitted to an XR6 sedan at dealer level and if not why is this so??

I think the Ford sensors seen on the Fairmont Ghia and as an Option on the XR sedans are ugly..

Some information would be appreciated.

I agree with you, the reverse sensors on the GTs are recessed and dont look too bad as compared to the other ones fitted to the Ghia's etc.
Cheers John

Hi .Reverse sensors are generally fitted to any car.If you require them I would recommend you to have a chat to your dealer.Just bear in mind that many of these products are installed at the factory by third parties like myself and called factory fitted...

Re: FPV Reverse Sensors - Fit XR ??

I am in the process of fitting sensors to my GT, so am familiar with all the parts required. The sensors themselves are the same part as the ones fitted to lesser-spec Falcons, it's only the retainer that is different.

The standard Falcon/Fairmont retainers fit through the rear bumper from the outside, and have a cage that clips around them (inside the bumper) to retain them, then the sensor just clips into the whole assembly.'

On the GT/GT-P setup, the retainer fits through the bumper from the inside, with 4 special little grooves moulded on the inside face of the bumper to allow correct orientation and angle - one groove on each side of the hole, and two at the top. These are in a thickened area (like a pad) on the inside of the bumper. This could be your problem, as the standard Falcon bumpers aren't as thick in this area - you may have to try and build up a pad on the inside of your bumper first. Have a look at the inside of a GT rear bumper (obviously one that hasn't got sensors), and you will see what I am talking about.

Anyhow, the retainer is held onto the bumper by a flat retainer with double-sided tape. Then the sensor clips into this assembly.

If I can, I'll try to get a couple of piccies for you, if you want to see what the GT parts look like, but they are quite clear to see in the parts catalog at your Ford dealer.

Re: FPV Reverse Sensors - Fit XR ??

GT009 is quite correct and it is why there are sensoir and non sensor rear bars listed for the GT/GT-p. We had a go at a retrofit after having a spare damaged bumper to play with and ended up putting it in the too hard basket and fitting flush mount aftermarket ones. There's a pic here somewhere!
Cheers
