Was looking at the new BA sedans on the weekend when I noticed that the XR6 Auto uses 12.6ltrs per 100km but the Fairmont Ghia Auto was only 11.5ltr per 100km. I would of thought the Fairmont being a heavier car would chew more petrol.
Can anyone explain this?
I know the XR6 has a smaller diff ratio but I wouldnt of thought it would use more than a 1ltr per 100k.
Cheers
Glenn

That's what it would be, the XR6 has a lower diff ratio. They would weigh pretty much the same as today's XR6s come standard with most of the Fairmont stuff. Except for the analog XC clock, lol.
Re: Fuel Consumpion sticker on BA XR6 vs BA Fairmont
I got my XR6na (Manual) a year ago and it had 13,000 on the clock, I've done another 27,000 with 80% city driving, according to the 'trip readout' it only averages 43km per hr but is getting 11.7ltrs per 100kms.
I'm very happy with the fuel consumption after reading some of the figures people have mentioned on this forum.

Note the manual transmission models use the same 3.45 as the Auto XR6 and Ghia.
Maybe it's just a touch of reality, XR6 drivers are hoons?
OK, so you have just said that the XR6 and Farimont GHIA have the same diff ratio, 3.45:1 which is lower then the regular Falcon and Fairmont (which have 3.23:1). So why do you say "forget the diff ratio?" We are saying that the 3.45:1 diff will use more fuel then the 3.23:1 because the wheels are turning more times per Km, that's right 3.45:1 is LOWER than 3.23:1. Some say "numerically higher" but the gearing is LOWER.

didnt realize that the xr6 and fairmont ghia had the same diff ratio so now I am very confused about why the fuel consumption sticker on the xr6 is higher than the fairmont ghia. 11.5ltr per 100k for the ghia and 12.7 for the xr6??
