Re: Fuel mileage????

Sounds about right for a badly tuned stocker. Probably won't get much more when tuned probably add another 50k's per tank. What would also help is get rid of the 2.77 or 2.92 diff you have. Run a 3.23 or something around that. That'll help. Most your fuel usage would actually be taking off.

Before I ripped mine apart I used to get $350-380k's per tank running 3500rpm histall and 4.11 gears behind a very modified 351.

Re: Fuel mileage????

I have squeezed over 500km from a tank. That was with a 3:1 diff, thermoquad, factory 4 barrel manifold and 204/214 cam.

With a 3.5:1 diff, 214/224 cam and ported heads, it still achieved around 16 l/100km.

Re: Fuel mileage????

what is my diff good for then if it is a 2.77 or 2.92 lsd diff ? top speed?
so a 4.11 is it for acceleration?
im not sure my car isnt built for drag purposes i built it to use as a daily driver and as much as i love it im not on a huge packet so i need to keep the cost down

Depends on where you live and your surrounds. If you have 100k zones everywhere? You'd be best to stay with the hwy diff. If you have 60/80k zones? You'd be better off with a 3.23 or 3.5.

My mates worked 302 running a 3.5 rearend only gets 70k's per tank more than me. Thats 49ci less! His does around 450k's per tank.

Re: Fuel mileage????

oh cool so if i lived in the country my diif would be good for higher speeds.
i live in a area where theres alot of 60/70/80 zones so changing my diff might be a good idea
How does the ratio affect fuel consuption?

Re: Fuel mileage????

It's only affected during take off(stop/go driving). If you drop down a few ratios you'll use let pedal to take off hence giving you better fuel econ.

No i wouldn't suggest 4.11's unless you have the engine setup that requires it. 3.5's is about as far as you'd go otherwise. 9" diff's aren't exactly cheap but you can pickup the appropriate ratio for about $500-$1000 reco.
