Futura Future?

I was talking to a salesman in Jefferson Ford the other day and he was saying that the NA XR6 was proving so popular that they might drop the Futura. Now I know this sounds a little far fetched but I was thinking it could do with a little bit of a rejig to make it a more popular car.
Number 1 would be to use blackout headlights like on Fairmont Ghia and XT and the utes. There is no point with the luxury headlights if the top model does not use them.
Number 2 have it with all the same engine/ transmission options of the XT.
Number 3 price it differently or add some more options in. It has to be an attractive vehicle to own. At the moment the XR6 has all the glamor however if there are too many XR6s out there they become less desireable and importantly from a leasers point of view will probably have a lower resale value.

The other option would be to raise the price of the XR6 a little by putting in the rear seat fold down thingy of the futura with sports trim. What do other people think?

Personally I think the Futura is the least desirable vehicle in the range. It doesnt justify its pricing above the XT and in comparison to the XR6 N/A it does not really stack up. However I imagine it is a profitable car for Ford.

The futura is aimed at a different demographic to the XR6 and consequently the soft ride, conservative styling and additional features may appeal to this market.

I agree with your suggestions in principal, although the more you do luxury wise the closer it gets to the Fairmont and the sportier you make it the closer it gets to the XR.

What it does highlight is the bargain the XR6 N/A really is. It also fills a gap and competes head on with the Acclaim. If i was mid 30's, married and had three kids I would probably be happy with the Futura, hold on that is me! Nahh give me an XR anyday!!!

Agreed. It looks cheaper than an XT and even the alloys arent that flash.
We would have got a Futura over a XT except the XT looks better so we optioned on alot to the XT so its is fairly much Futura spec.

I had a look at a Futura at Bryan Byrt Ford today in acid rush, it looked way better then the XT with the black mirrors and side mouldings. As for the wheels they are pretty much the same as the Fairmont ones and i reckon the silver headlights look better on the non - sports models in some colours, Like Acid Rush and Barosa Red.

Also they had an XR6 N/A on the showroom floor, but it didnt have colour coded mirrors, the guy said that only the Turbo now has colour coded Mirrors, I dunno if this is true but maybe they have done it like this so they can tell the difference betweent the 2 cars.

I also think the futura looks great in acid rush with the standard mags and a nice dark window tint
