Today I saw for the first time a G220, black with the optional 18” XR alloys on it and all I can say is it looked fantastic. It’s road presence was something I have not seen in a Fairlane for quiet a while, looking low, wide, polished, classy and mean all at the same time. I just wish I had a camera with me, but to be honest I do not think it would have done it any justice.
It may have been the bigger wheels, but the car looked something else, made me want one! I’m interested to hear if anyone else has seen these cars on the road now and what were their thoughts.
I saw one yesterday at NUFORD and another about half an hour ago at McInerney Ford.
They look very similar to your standard Fairmont from the front as i didnt notice it was a fairlane untill i saw the G220 badge on the side then i took another look at spotted the differences. I really like how the back end looks seems to flow better than the standard BA.
Fundamentals of good looks for a car - embiggened rims and a lower stance. Are you listening Ford? Hello?

Clicky clicky here for previous ride! I still miss her!
even in stock trim they're a nice looking car.
the original photos that were released made it look average to say the least, but after having a good look at one at wignal ford in frankston, i really like the look of it.
wouldn't mind seeing one fitted with the 18's you're talking about though

It was a silvery/green colour and looked allot better in the metal than in photos thats for sure.
Quite a nice looking luxo mobile..Couldn't be too sure if it was a fairlane Ghia or LTD as it was travelling in the opposite direction.. but it was nice just the same. And i know the G220 looks even better...

Would have to agree there, however maybe Ford are leaving the 18's for FPV :s6:
I am not sure if this G220 was lowered, but it really looked the goods in black and chrome. The chrome in fact appeared good quality and nicely styled, especially on features like the grille and rear dressing assembly. They are also using a nicer Ford badge (big!!) with a beveled edge.
After seeing this car I'm sure Ford are using the G220 as a test case for public reaction before embarking on further investment with additional performance etc. Much like they did with the Laser 'R', which due to its popularity green flagged the way for the SR and SR2.
This may also explain why the G220 to some has been brought to market a little on the conservative side i.e. No 18" wheels, Boss engines, etc The Laser 'R' was bog stock with a 1.6, a body kit and sold very well.
