I'm sure this has been answered before but my searches come up empty...

Can someone tell me how to get into the KOEO and KOER mode (AUII falcon).

I want to check/correct the base idle because of a starting problem. I went out and bought the Max Ellery workshop manual specifically to fix this. They say to go into KOER mode before checking this but conveniently forget to tell you how.

Would appreciate any info, thanks.

KOEO = Key On Engine Off (just before engine would start)
KOER = Key On Engine Running (engine started ... of course!)

I was under the impression that there was a secret handshake to be performed to get into KOER mode otherwise the ECU will detect that you've disconnected the ISC (IACV) and alter the ignition timing thereby stuffing up the test.

On older falcons I believe you just short a couple of pins in the OBD1 connector but I think the AU is different. Service manual assumes everyone knows this closely guarded secret ('cept me of course).

Oh ok, so you want to know what pins will allow diagnostic mode in KOER mode then?

I gather that you dont have a OBDII scan tool so the second method to set/adjust idle speed without is.
1 : Clean out & service throttle body.
2 : Ensure that Engine is at normal operating temp.
3 : Disconnect IACV Solernoid (idle control at throttle body)
4 : Adjust throttle stop screw to set idle speed at @ 680 to 720 rpm
5 : Reconnect and test.
Note : Running engine with IACVS up pluged may cause ECU light to come on, this should go out after a few key starts.

No, I don't have a scan tool although I'm looking for one (not many appear to do AU Falcons).

I will clean the throttle body and IACV as suggested.

I have already tried to set the base idle to 700rpm with IACV disconnected but upon reconnection the idle speed goes way too high (1200rpm). Perhaps after adjusting I need to clear the "Keep Alive" memory so it can re-learn the idle settings.

The book did say to go into KOER mode when doing base idle and I read somewhere that the ECU will retard the timing if it sees no IACV connected (unless in KOER mode).

Anyway, will try cleaning and resetting as suggested, thanks.
