Hi guy's I have come across a 1969 GS S/wheel on a old XY Fairmont wagon, now the rim has the ussual crack's which I hear can be repaired and it need's a new horn rubber, but my question is can the centre pad be restored easly,I know the GS emblem can be replaced but what about the black crashpad, where the stiching is it is torn a little,I think it can be glued down, and also where the pad sit's on the rim itself, it's lifting a bit(the vinyl is lifting off from the foam, are these wheel's easly repaired and with good result's,I really want the wheel as I've been looking for one for yr's,I'm just a little unsure on the repair,so if anybody has repaired a wheel and had good result's I would love to hear from you, The price for the whole car which includes a 250-2V, C4 auto, exelent chrome trim on the window's and fairmont trim, including bucket's,(in need of a trim), elec tailgate, is $850,do you think this is a good buy, cheer's.

buy Unique Cars magazine as they usually have ads for steering wheel restorers in there which are located around the country. $850 doesnt sound too bad for a whole car either.

Cheer's that would be good,If I do get it I am going to take it to Grand Tourer, but if I may ask you a question, just what was the wheel like that you are getting repaired, is there a limit as to how far these wheel's can go before they are unrepairable,I think this wheel can be repaired I'm just a little unsure.

Rimis cracked at the top (like 90% of them), centre pad is a little warped and seen better day, but not totally stuffed.

The rim on this one is cracked as well but I'm aware that this can be repaired, it's the centre pad that worries me,it's a little warped aswell, and it's ripped were the stiching is, you can lift it up but it sit's back down in place, I just hope it can be glued down and painted or something so it can't be seen, when you say your's is warped do you mean the centre pad around the back of it where it sit's near the rim itself.

Yes, the top part of the pad around the Boss is warped.

Do you think it's safe to say that 90% of damage to these rim's can be repaired,if they are warped how do they fix them and do they stay that shape after the repair?

I have been told that the centres are hard to repair, particularly if they are split at the "stitching".I was told that if there was a split in this area,it may be possible to repair but it would mean losing the "stitching" pattern.

But it's not split across the stiching, it's split down the stiching so it follow's the stiching, so it should go back into place, hopfully.
