Anyone know how to identify a GT 9"? just bought a ZJ with one in it, and it has a control arm type mount on top of it, I've been told that the GTs had this. Its 1400mm from axle to axle. I was going to measure the one in my XY to compare, but its too damn low, and my jacks out on loan!!

The "GT" rear was a " Nodular" case, it had an "N" cast into it, located at the top center. It could still be a standard 9in. thou and it was a very strong unit.
If you can get under the car. Take a 3/8 drive ratchet and shallow socket with you. If you CANNOT put the socket on the bottom 2 bolt's it's a 9in.

The control arms bolt on so don't concern yourself with that. I don't know the with but the 9 inchers in the Aus falcons/fairlanes were the same with (for their model years !) so really, whilst a 9 inch can come from a GT you 'make' an identical one by adding all the same bits.

In Australia, the Nodular Iron Centre was fitted to the GT-HO, not the GT. Good pick up though, not many people know about the Nodualr Iron Centre.

From memory, the Nodual Iron one had two vertical ribs, where the standard one only had one vertical rib.

I alway's thought that the number of rib's gave that info also, but according to Ford's that's not true. My "Nodular" 9in. has 4 vertical rib's, and I have an extra in the garage that only has 2.
