gt tanks....

Hi guys... i know it's probably a dumb question.. but I only ask as i don't know.

My tank in the GT (XA) has a 36 gallon... but was not fitted factory.
I have just discovered it has a hole in it... and was touched up in vain by welding etc.

Questions are,

If I would fit a normal tank in (someone tell me the size) are there any around?? and what would I expect to pay?

Are there any big tanks around?? or would the mechanic just go and get one from the wreckers (if that were possible).

Is it hard to fix a tank thats leaking and if not how?

My mechanic has shown the old man the problem... and I don't have to worry about being shafted... but I just like to know costs before comitting... any help appreciated.

Touch wood... this is to date the only problem I didn't know I was going to have.

Cheers boys and girls.

Mick

Re: gt tanks....

I know alot of gt's were released with a 120l long range fuel tank. I've got one on my car.

Re: gt tanks....

hi mick, should be easy enough to find a good standard tank. make sure you get an xa or early xb as these didn't have the fuel return for adr. i wouldn't expect more than $50 for the tank and a couple of hours for labour to fit. not sure on your fuel consumption, but i have the standard 75 litre tank in my xb gt and i get about 350kms per fill which is plenty to get from refill to refill even out here in central qld.
just another note too, if you've got the "big" tank you should also have the 6 leaf rear springs for the extra weight.

Re: gt tanks....

mick,
adr = australian design rule. notibly for motor vehicles was the dreaded adr27 which was all the pollution crap imposed on late xb's and on.

Re: gt tanks....

Other option is a S/S droptank and keep the old tank as a spare

Re: gt tanks....

Has Anyone tried removing the spare wheel well from their Stock tank? Rough calcs show it'd add about 60 litres to the stockers capacity? XW/XY 36Gal tanks are hard to come by, and I've decided against a droptank, but want more capacity for road trips...
