hey guys

my belt on my alternator is making that really bad noise ,it needs to be tightened,is it as simple as undoing that big nut and pushing the alternator towards the ground to make it tighter,and then tighen the bolt back up or is there a special way of doing it ??? it's on an ED I6

Yer, that's basically all there is too it...


you will actually notice that there is a bug nut with a bolt through it. Use a 13mm spanner to undo the centre bolt, then use a 15/16" spanner to adjust the bigger nut. You will notice that as you adjust the bigger nut, the alternator moves. Once it's tight enough, just do up the 13mm bolt again.

The whole belt is easy to change, but you have to take off the power steering belt first. Just loosen the top tensioner (15/16" socket, IIRC) and it will slide down allowing you too remove the belt.

Just make sure you keep the alternator 15/16 nut under torque whilst you tighten the smaller bolt, otherwise you will lose everything you may have just achieved. also with the power steering, thats fairly easy to remove, just ensure you dont get it caught on the fan like i did the first time i played woth the belts.
