HELP Power steering intermittent on EB - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

My power steering works about half the time and today I have replaced the belts and pump which makes it better, but has not solved the problem.
Any ideas what I need to replace next to get it working????

Has all the fluid in the lines been replaced?
Is there air in the system?

All fuide drained and replaced...but bloke who sold me the new pump says you dont need to bleed the power steer...just bolt it on and fill it up. Have I been lead astray?????

I was told that you had to work the steering left to right for a bit to force the bubbles out of the system, then lower the car to the ground.

What's the tension like in the power steering belt?

By intermittent, does it come and go whilst driving around corners? Does it not straighten up?

Where the hell is the pressure switch? I'm new to power steer...always liked the more traditional methods of turning a car :-)

Belt tension is fine...will try working the wheel a bit more tomorrow to loosen up any bubbles.
The steering dissapears about every two corners, won't straighten up.
Whe driving straight, it occassionally gets heavy then fades back to normal again.

On your steering rack , it should be a black plug with 2 wires heading into it they sometimes leak and ur steering will feel hard then normal when turning .
