What steps do you guys take to secure your car for theft when you go away on holidays?

Or do you just stick it in the garage and lock it up?

Ive thought of taking the spark plugs out, or the battery. Whats the best way?

i have a nice simple one for this, run a wire from the pos side and neg side of the coil and leave them disconnected and to run the car and connected to act as an immobiliser.

done it on every car and never yet had one go.
nice and cheap and simple and it works as they just look like a connected wire under the dash.

connect some wires from the battery to the body of the car but dnt forgett when u get back and just try to get into it cos then u mite have abit of a problem,......hehe

or the easier thing would be to take out the lead from the coil to the dizzy!

Rotor out, hidden disconnection of battery, 4 wheels off and up on jacks, lock it up in the garage and, finally, let the neighbour (old sticky beaak) know where we are going and for how long. This routine grows as I find more little tricks (thanks for the above). An early model restored GTS Monaro got knocked off nearby a couple of months ago in my area, which increased the paranoia levels a bit!

All that has already been said above, But i'd also jack the car up with the trolly jack, and move the car o a diagonal angle in the garage, so that it has to be jacked up and moved in order to get the car out again. (and hide the jack of course!!!)

Disconnect the battery anyway- its bound to go flat anyway! And don't leave the handbrake on- I drove the XT recently after it had been sitting for 6 weeks and the rear beakes had temporarily seized on.

For storage of a couple of months or more, i'd pour some motor oil down the carby with the engine running until a little smoke comes out the exhaust (to put oil on the bores to stop corrosion). Id also leave all doors/ boot etc on first catch, not fully closed, so as to not squash the rubbers. Tape up exhaust tips and carby barrel to stop moisture getting into the motor.

I chuck a car cover on it, and move it into a position that is not easy to get to.
I also use a steering lock, and disable the engine. And I also make sure the garage is secure as it can be.

and as CoupeCruiser09 mentioned - letting the neighbour know as well also helps, provided you are on good terms and trust them...

If you have another car as well, you can manover that so it is harder to get out the driveway. (I find that easy, as I have 4 cars and a camper....)
