This may seem like a dumb question but how "hard" is "hard" when talking about "hard" driving in a Falcon 6? (E series or BA, whichever). I ask because since acquiring my EL 4 months ago I've noticed that while a lot of running time is spent under 2500 RPM, I'm often up around 3500-4000 when accelerating - something my friends think will ultimately lead to it having a short life-span... I know it'll redline at 5500 and it rarely hits 4500 but am I hurting my Falcon by using its potential? Are other components such as the transmission more likely to fail first? I know when I used to own my Gemini it regularly hit 5000 just getting off the line (and even at 5000 it still didn't move very fast).
Manufacturers set a conservative redline. So i think you will find that by reving it to 4500 you will probably increase the life of the engine as there is less likely hood of the bores getting glazed up and needing new rings. This is provided you are letting it come up to temp before you give it a hiding. and that you give it regular oil changes etc.

Yep, definately let her warm up before giving it too much off the line. I'll usually idle for a minute or two before driving off - there's one guy with a recent Mazda of some sort who parks near me at work... every afternoon without fail he gets into his car and flogs the pants off it on a dead cold engine, and leaves a trail of blue smoke, even in winter. Makes me wonder...
I also have the oil changed regularly and at last service my mech. said the car was in good condition. No head gasket probs yet *cross fingers*.
I have an EL XR6 which has been blown for 5.5 yrs. I drive it HARD and hit the rev limiter regualy as the 5,500 RPM approaches very quickly with 9PSI. I have never had a drive train issue (other than one caused by a faulty timing chain tensioner ) and still consider the car as very sound after 150,000 Kms.
I do change the oil every 5,000kms and filter every 2nd change. I change diff oil and gearbox every 50,000.
