Ive got a xr6 turbo blueprint everything standard and with a manual gearbox, i was wondering how many other people have had problems with them. So far ill tell you whats happened. The car arrived in feb without a 5th gear, so that got sent back and the gearbox was replaced, they did that nice and quick, no complaints(although how this got through qc i cant understand. first serveice went alright except for alot of brake shudder, they fixed that, no complaints. Now its coming up to the 15,000 k service, and ill give you a list of the problems.
-brake shudders back with avengence and one of the rear brakes is rubbing.
-5th gear now wont engage properly and crunches into gear, theres also a smell like the clutch is burning every now and then.
-and today the bonnet release fell off whalst i was driving so i couldnt press the gas very well as it was in the way.
all ive got to say is i hope ford are gonna deal with these problems with series 2, cause surely there shouldnt be this many problems. But the customer service has been second to none so ill give them that much.
cars going into be serviced this week so i'll see what they say.
the brakes and bonnet release are common (my brakes have just started making some weird noise), however thats the first ive heard of a fifth gear missing!
All I can say mate is I'm glad your dealer is doing everything they can for you,the brake shudder seem's a common problem with the BA,but that gearbox is a 1st for me, I hope all goes well and your dealer help's you out.
Quite true sdrew, it makes a mockery of the PDI charges, mine got thru to me with excessive backlash in the diff.
Also had the brake shudder problem @ around 4,000k's, they were lightly skimmed which sure fixes the problem but I would have expected at least 20-30,000k's before the first machining.
If I get shuddering again, I will likely push for new disks, machining them this early in the piece is akin to shaving meat of brake pads to fix a problem!
I had my discs machined today due to brake shudder. I have only done about 9000 k's , by the sounds of it I will be getting them done again well before warranty is over. I wonder if they would be prepared to change the discs.
It's issues like these with the manual gearbox that's forcing me to get an auto if I was to buy a BA. I've been driving my manual EB for the last 4 years and can understand when people talk about certain gears crunching and diffs with excess back-lash.
At least the auto sports shift works like a manual (i.e. holds gears when you want). I know it's not the same but I think it's pretty good.
I'm just not confident to buy another manual Falcon. What a shame.

Don't let the T5 sour your taste for manuals.
The tremec is a dream to use , and just gets better with age. I have yet to come across the rattle from the tremec that so many talk about. 7000km on the clock with no probs what so ever with my ute , although the paint finish could have been a whole lot better.
there is no doubting the BAXR6/T gearbox is a dog and isnt at the standard it should be, but i couldnt imagine driving mine without a manual...dont know how you could drive a high performance car with an auto...it should be illegal..haha
It all comes down to QC, I think Geoff Polities should get his head out of the clouds on sales and lift the quality game, not the production rates.
The bonnet catch issue is due to the f#$%wit in the assembly line not lining up the release clips in the fuse holder, so it sits there with no rear support and breaks not long after checking the dissapearing coolant. This requires a new release and fuse holder to rectify, I bet production was glad they met their volume target by saving 3 seconds to check, customer wastes 2 hours of their time to rectify.
Brakes rotors are the biggers bunch of shite since VP commodores, they work very well but get the shudder as soon as they are asked to perform, I guess the cabbies will put a rocket up FoMoCo arse for this one, DBA will come to the rescue once again with a well sorted product as usual I guess.
Dash pads, every 3rd one I have looked at has a blemish above the passenger side airbag, I had mine replaced at the dealer only to find the new one has the same fault, I pointed this out to the service manager and he couldn't answer as to how they could fit one with the same fault, in their showroom every third BA had the fault.
Engine drive belt decal under the bonnet, every one falling off due to not cleaning and applying correctly, plus rust streaks from the strut tower spot welds.
Driveline slack, I will persue this at the 30k service
So much for predelivery and QC, how many BA owners are new to the Ford brand, only to be driven away by this type of simple avoidable problems, current affair fodder I guess.
yes ive noticed a strange smell that is awfully similar to a burning clutch on my XR6 ute. Also the clutch does not enguage till about half way up. Anyone else got that occuring? or is it normal. ive got a mate whos gearbox lunched its self with 35000 on the clock. whats the story Ford please explain. im off to have a look at the dash now
I have a really bad whine in 3rd gear, (manual) along with a vibration at about 115km/h in 5th.
Car has been to ford who informed me that the rep from the gearbox company will need to see the car to authorise repair/replacement. Car goes back in later this month for the rep to see it......
Clutch also has bad smell sometimes, and some mornings it won't come back up when you press it. It's like it gets stuck and then slowly comes back up. It slips under hard acceleration sometimes.
Since i've had all these problems i am unable to change from 5th to 3rd, its seems to get locked out of third, i need to shift down to 4th then 3rd.
Its an absolute joke....
My previous AUI and AUII had no problems in the gearbox area.
yer i have had a bad run with my N/a xr6
listed as:
- opted premo sound no lil speakers in the dash
- tint bubled up got replaced, then when got replaced tint glue went all over the seats and all that jazz whole rear trims were replaced.
- engine has flooded several times takes 5 min to start ford says no error codes.
- gear box flares 2nd to 3rd cold start gear box replaced still not great still flares
- engine pings when under load no error codes
- exhast keeps gettin loose making a wonder fulll rattle around 2,000 rpm mark been in 4 times to have that tightened.
- poer source and tissue box holder was broken by dealer and waited 2 weeks for eplacement
- when car got delivered it had normal plates when i opted for the slim line plates replaced, but ford assist dont know who i am because they were not changed in there data base
-thats all i can remember atm
so i am not a happy chappy atm but dont get me wrong i love my car in how it drives and all but i just have some issues that are ongoing so i hope that going to be cleared up

ba XR6: I read your post and list of problems. I've experienced all of them and more (much much much more) in my 18mths with my XR6 n/a. It's a piece of sh*t that I'll be so happy to dispose of once the trade-in meets my finance payout. I'll then go back to a quality jap car like a Liberty or Accord Euro. Yep, not as much fun factor, but at least I'll only visit the dealer for servicing.
