Just got my hands on the latest UNIQUE cars value guide which is always an interesting read.
Some surprises here :
Based on sales of certain cars, they've assesed each car on information supplied by owners, specialised dealers, vehicle valuers and auction / insurance houses.
Here's a sample
Based on number of examples sold in brackets they have valued the following : Obviously the greater number of sales gives a better average.
Ford XD ESP V8 (7 sales ) $8,300
Ford XE ESP V8 ( 17 sales ) $17,250 ( GO THE XE ESP.... :wnc: )
Ford XR8 EB (24 sales) $9,295
Ford XR8 ED(10 sales) $13,930
Ford XR8 ED Sprint (13 sales) $20,575
Ford XR8 EF (32 sales) $15,585
Ford EB GT (12 sales) $35,200
Ford EL GT (7 sales) $32,135
GTHO Phase III (4sales) $133,750
XB Goss Special (7 sales) $15,895
XY GT Import Sth Africa (6 sales) $16,165
XY GT Replica (58 sales) $14,580 - My god.........it's got its own category !!!
do know how many of these Gt's are left in Sth Africa ?
and a XY GT at $46,325 is cheaper that what you see them going up For Sale in the magazines..
whats Alex's XA GT worth in the book ?

The values in the book are based on averages different conditions and ACTUAL sale price so there will of course be some variances.............but on the whole it seems to be pretty accurate.
XA GT sedan - 10 sales $18,595
XA GT Hardtop - 4 sales $18,600
XB GT sedan - 23 sales $14,170
XB GT Hardtop - 6 sales $15,015

Hi Mark it is a XB GT. :edit: Good to see the XE ESP jump up in price as they are a very rare and sorted car who knows it could be the next rarest Aust Ford range. :wnc: I still reckon the VG Pacer is worth much more than what the book quotes.
Cheers Alex.
I thought it was a pretty good guide, it's worth having the commentary as well rather than just condition A, B & C prices like you often see. From what I could see the prices quoted look to be pretty on-the-ball too.
I remember reading in a street machine magazine years ago about their predictions on desirable cars. They said the esp's were worth a second look.
I wonder if Ford hadnt brought out the new GT's and XR8's what the price of the old GT's would be? Did these new cars create new interest in the older ones and force up the price or do they slow the price rising by providing an alternative.
Not surprised to see the XE ESP climbing - they have been somewhat undervalued for too long and as a car it was considerably better sorted than the XD which is also reflected in those values.
Looking through my database of build numbers I note that I don't have numbers for the XE ESP so I shall have to dig through the archives and see if I can find them. I'd gather (given the number of unused 5.8's that went back to the US) that it probably wasn't very many.
i think those EL2's are getting up around $15K-$20K or so for the good ones. from what ive heard though, the XY's are fetching so much now cause a while ago, someone had a show Ph3 for $150K in Unique Cars and mustve easily gotten it, so everyone else has been asking a bit more for theirs
Redbook gave me a 13k average or something stupid, for a post october 97 xr8 manual.. i can't believe that.. i paid almost $19k for mine.. 130,000kays, manual, immaculate inside and out..
Not to be negative or anything, but come on guys,
1) your car is only worth what someone will actually pay for it
2) unique cars has allways been a place for the dickheads of the car community to advertise.
end of rant.
(waiting to be yelled at) lol

Exactly what this edition is all about.
It lists average sale prices based on actual number of sales.
The whole point of a collector's car is the fact that it is collectible............................why the hell else would people pay $130,000+ for a XY ?????????????.......................and they have.
I still wouldn't take it as gospel..........but I do think it is a relatively accurate reflection as to the market perception on many of these old cars at the moment. The end $$$$ result will be on the ACTUAL condition of the vehicle in question and the mag raises this as well.........................

I think the ESP has had a fairly steady value of around $10-15-20k depending on mileage and condition, however in recent times it had dropped a bit. I suppose that may have had something to do with the hotter XR8s and T series Falcons (especially once they came on the used market) as you could get the performance of the ESP once again. Also I would imagine some of the ESP owners got into the old GTs as well when it was clear the prices were about to rocket.
To illustrate how the old GT prices have risen, I know of a XW GT which was purchased for $22k about 4 years ago, and the owner has been offered $45k and $48k for it.
It certainly isn't in the league of the other Ford collectables like the GT's.
The ESP just wasn't enough BALLS out performance car for many of the Ford enthusiasts. It was more like your........." hey man.............what's happenin " type of laid back cruiser.
They are getting more and more difficult to find in good condition now because of their "non highly collectable" nature which is a real shame.
I still love mine anyways and will always keep it. I guess it's infamous claim to fame is that it is the last aussie built V8 and the last of the production Clevelands. It doesn't mean all that much in the whole scheme of things..........but at least it's something.
( Those Scheels seats are still better than the so called sports seats in some of the newer cars now !!!!!!!!! )
The fact that EB and EL GT's have roughly the same value now poses an interesting question really - which do you think will be worth more in years to come, say 10 or 20 years time?
I'm not sure as the EB was the milestone "comeback" GT. The EL didn't have many significant advances over the EB, but what it did have is certainly worth having although the grille may be a problem.
