Lowering XR wagon

I'm looking into dropping my XR wagon down 1-1.5 inches. Have had a couple of quotes for around $650 to get this done with new front springs and leafs in the rear.
What methods are generally the most effective?

New front coils and new or reset/retempered rear leaves are the go.
You should probably look at getting new shocks to suit the springs while it is all apart...

Re: Lowering XR wagon

Hi XR Cruzer,
If you,re in Melbourne, Brown's Springworks in Thomastown
do alot of early Falcons and David is very helpfull with info
over the phone (PH-9460 8622)
They're also one of the few that reset rear leafs hot rather than
cold tensioned, meant to be more effective and longer lasting.
Prices seem very reasonable (Club prices) but ALWAYS shop around.

Re: Lowering XR wagon

$650 wow dude that seems steep. i have been quoted $150 to get my rears reset and another $50 to put the lowered springs i bought of ebay for $50 in the front. All up they are charging me 300 because it is being droped 3" so they will have to play around with the front springs a bit to match the rear. I would shop around some more.

Re: Lowering XR wagon

Brown's have quoted $340 to re-set the front & rear springs.

By the way, the $640 was for the following:
* New front springs
* re-set rear leafs
* new bushes in rear

Yr's ago I lowered my XW wagon using pedder's lowered front spring's with their sport's shock's and then the leaf's were reset with new shock's, pedder's comfort sport's, all up including fitting was around $650.

Re: Lowering XR wagon

Right, my $650 quote was from Pedders andi got a similar quote from a joint in North Melbourne.
Did you get a good result with the Pedders job?
Also attached is a pic of the car...67 XR Fairmont wagon, factory 289, straight gas, about to put in A/C and drop it down.

Re: Lowering XR wagon

Yes I am happy with the result, I would have rather to have bought Koni's or something but they were a little to expensive for me, the pedder's do the job.
