Purchased a 2nd hand BA V8 fairmont and have the requirement for a LSD (Towing). Rang Ford, still waiting for a reply (2 weeks). Can anyone recommend someone I can call in regards to getting one fitted?
I think fitting a LSD to a BA could be problematic if it has traction control fitted. Which the BA Fairmont does?
You would need to ensure the correct electronic codes are also installed to suit the mechanical diff. Otherwise you will end up with wierd brake vs mechanical drive battles down the back.
I tow a small tandem trailer (about 1400kg) including up and down the hill out of my loose gravel driveway and parking slot without difficulty. This is in a BA Ghia with the standard open diff and TCS.
If the standard setup is battling buy a Territory AWD.
I may be old, but at least I'm stupid!
to check the diff ration you currently have, it is standard that there is a diff tag on the diff filler, just check under the back of your car, it will display it on a little tag. i think xr's come with 3:45's? and xr6 has lsd?
i also am interested in the lsd, as i have trouble getting out of my driveway... steep and loose. I had no worries with my ea which had lsd.
Has anyone done the conversion? am i able to change the ratio at the same time? is it worth while? what does it cost?
i have lots of questions.. lol.
BA XT should be 3.23 currently. Answers to your questions - yes, yes, lsd definitely/ratio depends on desired use, get a quote from a diff shop as depends on ratio and new/secondhand/reco lsd. Hope this helps.
