It's a resistor and it will only work for 100km or so after you install it.

Something about making the car run rich and use more fuel. But my thermostat does that too

tricks the ECU into thinking the engine is cold all the time, so it compensates by throwing in extra fuel. they can do this via ECT (coolant) or ACT (air) sensors. apparently the ECU can start ignoring that sensor if it thinks its lying, though.
