I voted for "period accessories/aftermarket parts". IMO a car like a GT shouldn't be too far removed from it's original state because of it's scarcity etc. Mild mods that are "old school" and fit the period are OK, again as long as the car retains it's character.
I would NOT like to see any of the body cut, tubbed out, custom interior etc. How many GT's have been butchered beyond recovery??
About 12 years ago my best mate rescued an XB GT Coupe that had suffered the classic late '70's / early '80's street machine treatment. This thing had really sparkly blue paint and god knows how many coats of clear that had developed crows feet. It looked like something you'd find on a speedboat!! He nutted out the id plate for colours, options etc and did a bare shell resto on it. It's now an Emerald Green/Silver thing of beauty that has won trophies for him.
I'm really attracted to rare colours or unusual options. I really like stripe delete XW's and XY's and I think it's a good thing to see vinyl roofs retained if that's what it came with new.
I say leave the radical mods to base models.

If i owned an original GT i would pull the motor, trans and diff out, put it in the corner of the shed and go absolutely berserk on a alloy headed stroker cleveland, full manual auto and a fully spooled nine inch.

And you can always change it back to standard
I know of someone that has done that over here, it does 10's down the 1/4.
Id stay stock with the looks and stuff but would do up the motor a fair bit more. if it were a GTHO... its a NO GO ZONE!!! thats is dnt modify nuthin!!!

The XRGT I bought in 1981 I modified because it was my only car then and I love the extra horsepower but I wouldn't modify another - dead stock, paint dabs 'n' all and driven to all major GT Nationals for the last nine years too
You dont need to change an early GT to get attention - they get that aplenty!!
