Re: More EF Falcon problems

I have the same problem, (prob not as bad) but i reckon increasing the idle up a bit will sort it out. will see how it goes when i buy a new gasket

Nah not a good idea, that will just be covering the problem and cause more wear and tear on other parts of your car(like brakes and Auto Tranny, and fuel economy etc etc)

Re: More EF Falcon problems

For anyone else with vibrations at idle, can I suggest inspecting your harmonic balancer?

A few months back my 5.0L was shaking like a mo-fo at idle - it actually broke one of the screws holding the side mirror on It turned out to be the harmonic balancer was, well, unbalanced. The problem was that once the revs picked up and generated enough inertia, the vibration disappeared (so it made me think leads, plugs, etc. etc. before checking H/B)

I'm not sure where they live on the I6 but it sits behind the crank pulley on the V8. If your engine mounts check out OK, have look at the balancer.

Re: More EF Falcon problems

I have the exact same probably in my Laser. The engine mounts are also probably causing my other problem of it being rough to engage gear. I'll have to do some research...

Re: More EF Falcon problems

Could it be something else like timing? If the timing is out it can cause a shudder and make it feel like the idle is too low.

To test the engine mounts put one foot on the brake and give it a bit of throttle. If the engine jumps up when you do this you know there's a problem with your mounts.

Re: More EF Falcon problems

nah the EF's have a coil pack, I would say most likely causes are

Dirty ISC
old spark plugs/leads
dirty inectors/poor fuel
shagged engine mounts
