My Fuel Gauge issues...

Hey guys,
Im having the most anoying problem with my fuel gauge at the moment.

When i Fill the car up it goes to FULL as normal, but for the first 150k's or so it stays at full, then starts to rapidly drop, It will drop in 80k's from FULL to close to EMPTY. I dont get what its doing. I Know Rob and Luke (xrated) have simular probs with there gauges too.

What can i do to try and fix this? because its driving me nuts not knowing how much is in there, because it says sometimes that i have 1/4 left but really have 1/8th left or says 1/4 but have 1/3 left.

thanks

You can have the one that's painted red back if you want (I dumped it in the garage somewhere)

My guage stays above half way until about 400km's, then in the next 150km's or so it goes from half way to 100% dry. But it's fairly consistant, so it's easy to guesstimate how much is left in the tank. It's been this way even when I had the 'ol GL tacho-sized fuel guage

Re: My Fuel Gauge issues...

My ED Ghia cluster doesnt have this issue. maybe we can run a aftermarket fuel guage with new wiring to see if it still does it. i still think its resistance in the wire or something causing a faulty reading.

Re: My Fuel Gauge issues...

my fuel guage was bad, then i changed to MPFI (with a different sender) and its still bad, but at the opposite end of the scale (doesnt go to full, but says empty well before it actually is (i think) whereas before it sat at full forever then went to empty in like 1/2 a second

Re: My Fuel Gauge issues...

I had this exact same problem. No one could tell me WTF was going on.

I ended up pulling out the fuel pump and sender unit and cleaning it, also cleaing all the earthing contats.

Ill see how it goes and let you know, ive just done the MPFI conversion so lets see how it goes.
