Thats right, the head gasket on the NA has just gone :( Anyway, not to get too upset (despite the fact that id just booked it in for extractors etc on wed), im looking at what my options are.
Not having the time to do it myself, ill most likely be getting it done at my mates workshop, which will cost me around the $550 mark, provided the head is in cood condition (not corroded etc). However, im thinking of rather than take the risk that it is not ok, im looking at getting another head from a newer model, that I know has good valves/is in good condition (hope that makes sense) and fitting up my cam/rocker gear to it. I realise that any head I get will need machining, but that is already included in the $550.
So, aside from the tickford heads, which are near impossible to get, what should I be looking at, keeping in mind I have el rocker gear and wade cam. Will this gear fit onto an AU head (which I can pick up, in good condition for around $260) or should I go for an ef el, or mabey an earlier one still (eb-ed)
Choice Ford in Sunshine will have a Tickford head but you will pay top $ for it though. Ef or El and get some pocketing done, if it were me. Not to sure about the Au head and the cam. There are issues with a Au cam in a E-series head but not sure about going the other way.
Well, just for the ease of things, I decided to go with an EL head. Picked up low km one in really good condition for a good price, which included the rocker gear and cam. So, if anyone is interested in buying an EL cam, or rockergear, let me know.
bad luck on the gasket. it took me roughly 2 days to do mine when i did it, but that included most of the mpfi conversion - but if you can get a good price getting someone else to do it, do it!
just wondering what you paid for the EL head and where you got it from?
im sure when she goes back together the bit of added grunt will be worth the hassle
