Re: NC Fairlane

At some time as with all the Fairlanes and Fairmonts with self levelling suspension the shocks will leak and need to be replaced but that is neither difficult nor expensive. If not looked after, Windsor V8's can develop coolant leaks through the timing cover but it's unusual (but check for evidence of leaks as new timing covers are not cheap). I have a V8 and a MPEFI 6 (earlier NB model) and the V8 is much more reliable and with sequential rather than banked fuel injection gives me better economy. Most of the V8's have aluminium drive shafts that are expensive to replace and also need specially coated universal joints so check the drivetrain is OK. As with all Fords the auto transmissions are expensive to fix if not cared for so check that they change smoothly, change down smoothly when breaking heavily to a stop and do not hesitate when put into reverse or drive.
