I remember... though it wasn't a case of the BMW having a 'million' airbags. Though 10 airbags sound like a lot, it's nothing more than dual front bags, and upper and lower side airbags for all 4 outboard occupants. Nothing my friend's base model C Class Mercedes can't equal. I remember when the Renault Scenic was introduced, costing well under $30 grand, including side curtain 'bags.
The point is, this stuff is nothing special by the standards of overseas cars. The standards of safety features in Australian cars are low - end of story. It was only last year that something like a 'luxury' Ford TS50 had the same number of airbags (2) as a Daewoo Matiz, etc - the cheapest cars on sale at the time.
