Car kept accelerating after I floored the throttle. Had to slam on the brakes to get it to cut out.

Yeah they hold the throttle when pushed hard, its so if you get off the gas and then get back on it'll save you from drive line clunk. They have incorporated this into the 4 speed auto as well. So just keep it in mind for future.

I've got heaps of respect for the bastard but I'll still get it checked. It should back off when I take my foot off the throttle. It kept on going as if it was still flat to the floor for a couple of seconds. It kicked back and howled through the gears as I was trying to slow her down with the brake. It could have been very, very bad. She shouldn't rev up like that.

That sounds dodgy. Are you absolutely sure the floor mat wasnt the problem as this happens alot from the mat. If you can be sure its not then perhaps you should talk to your Ford service centre. The throttle system on them is not a cable type but uses electrics (fly by wire) so perhaps there is a problem there.

Yeah, I checked the floor mat. It's a dished rubber type and was weell behind the throttle pedal.

It's going in for a service this week and I'll get them to investigate. It's only happened the once and only when I gave it a big kick in the guts. I'm driving it like a pensioner now, not like I stole it.

I'll let you know the outcome of the investigation by Thursday probably.

No fault codes or problems with the throttle sensors, etc. No carpet or mat to stick on the throttle.

Must have been the cruise control, Ford can't pin it down but said that a Turbo XR6 owner reported same there once.

Tried it twice today and it repeated. There was a definite clunk on the rhs steering wheel area as the throttle dropped off.

Not sure if I'm game to repeat just yet though I'll pass the info to the local Ford mechanics.
