new BA V8 model rumour in December Motor

On page 13:

Quote:
While the war rages, the first battle victory goes to Holden. Sources inside Ford admit that, by giving the 235kW SV8 Commodore an entry-price of $40,490, Holden outsmarted them. Ford's answer will be a new V8 model positioned below the XR8 in price and power. Try mid-$40 grand with an estimated 230kW. It is believed Ford easily extracted another 10kW from the SOHC, three-valve 5.4-litre V8 through exhaust tuning.
The hardest job may be conjuring up a name. Neither XR6+ or XR8- seems appropriate but that's where the new performance model will sit. Anyway, its styling should be more XR6 than bonnet-bulging XR8 because the shorter SOHC V8 sits underneath the standard Falcon bonnet.
I wonder who their "source" was.

And the stoopid SSX is on the cover. *sigh*

Why would you buy a 230KW V8 for 45 grand when you can get a XR6T for 43?
I know some people love the V8 but is the Barra 220 really that deficient compared to the SV8? Going on Wheels times (Calais 225 v8 vs Fairmont V8) you'd have to say no.

Hold on a sec... which battle was this? the only competition where it has been v8 vs v8 was the fairmont ghia vs calais and to my knowledge that was Ford that won that.. and if they are talking engines - i do believe Ford has one every comparison so far.. hmmmmmmm.. interesting way of awarding a win :hrm:

Dimwits the lot of them.
Engineer and release a unique powertrain to get another model in the same place as a V8 XT?
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Their "sources" are probably busy bolting #3 crossmembers in all day.
Either that or.... they may have been fed a load of bull....
