I have spoken to several Ford dealers, and they are telling me there is no way a BAII is coming out this year.
I heard the next update isn't until middle of next year.
No dealer would say otherwise as they have current stock to shift and unless they have family/friends that work within Ford in the releveant department no-one would really know. In my parents case, back in 1988, they ordered a EL Futura Saphire wagon series I and had delivered a series II as the dealer wasn't sure at what stage the production line would start work on series II models.

There was no such thing as an EL series 2.

I was under the impression that there was a mid life tweak of the EL myself. Don't know if it was called Series 2 or not, but thought there were some specification and suspension changes.
Maybe I'm thinking of XH2 when the XR8 ute came out.

It didn't have series II badges but there was definately an update. The front passenger door had its internal lock removed for eg. and no outside key hole while there were minor trim spec changes. On the limited ed'n Saphire they changed striping as well.
Getting back onto the BAII, I heard the six speed auto wont be ready for the October/November release of BAII. The six speed manual is a definite and the Typhoon will only be available in manual to begin with.
It wouldn't suprise me if only (6 speed) manuals were avalible on release, with the new auto becoming a option around jan/feb.
As I recall they did this for the auto BA XR8 (perhaps for diffrent reasons). I wouldn't be suprised if it might acually be part of a stratergy. Ford can concentrate on getting units out the door for the first few months with out too many varients and exploding waiting lists, use the time to further refine the auto, complete durability testing, get a second wind in those months after the release. I'm guessing cars with the 6 speed auto aren't going to be strippers, more likely to be optioned up to the max which would complicate volume manufacturing early in the production timeframe.
Also if they can stock up a big batch of cars with simular or exact options then it would make production easier.(?)
I think at this stage we can expect announcement(s) in september with building occuring that month or early next (atleast of some sort) and sales to start in Octoberish. But we could be weeks out, if Ford has some last moment changes, or delays.
We guess at:
-6 speed manual and auto on some models
-New colours
-New trims
-Some exterior changes (bumpers?)
-price rises?
-Various technical fixes for BA (some weight reduction?, brakes?, those small manufacturing tweaks)
All and all looking good. BA II should kick some arse. BA was pretty much faultless as a whole. If Ford can fix quality issues and impliment the above changes thats going to be one sweat ass car. From the sound of it so far, big thumbs up. Looks like Ford isn't just going to chuck out a Holden type "series II" with new, badging..
There may have not been a offical EL II but there were fairly significant upgrades that occured during the EL life, that Ford should have named as a series II. If curls parents really did order a EL back in 1988 that is a exceptionally long back order, what 10 years? Also the dealer must have really known his stuff to sell them a EL back in 1988!! I wish I could sell things that won't be built for 10 years.
Information talked about the 4 speed auto staying in some form until 2008 when Ford contract with Ion/BTR runs out. Makes sense, I don't think some Utes and some fleet cars (taxis) really want to leave the 4 speed until the 6 speed is well proven and cheap/easy to fix.
Well Well Well. Looks like Both Holden and Ford have got the same idea with their local family sedans.!!! In the press release yesterday, Holden confirmed that the HFV6 Will be called "ALLOYTEC" What a wank!!!. THere will be 2 engines. A 3.8 litre without VVT for EXEC and Acclaim. It will produce 170 kw. That motor will be mated to a 4 speed auto or 6 speed manual. (Not Getrag or Tremec) A japanese sourced box with a soon to be class leading shift quality. T
The other engine is the VVT 3.8. It produces 190kw and 346nm of torque. Not as much torque as the barra but it produces 90% of its maximum torque from 1600rpm to 5000rpm. By the way peak power is 190kw @ 6,500 rpm with cutout @ 6950 RPM!!!
There will also be a new model called SV6, which is a body kitted, alloy wheeled glorified family car with the 190kw engine and either a 5 speed auto (also found in the berlina and calais) or 6speed japanese manual. A turbo varient of the ALLOYTEC will be available 15 months later in the form of VE commodore.
