Do Au's use synthetic oil or standard oil?
The manual shows services every 15,000k's...seems a long time between oil changes especially with normal oil.
Depends on model. Regardless of which I would not be changing oil every 15k whatever it was. Stick to the old style 10k and wear the extra cost - in the long run it is worth it. If you are really serious about looking after a Windsor then 5k changes and a mineral based oil are the go.

Mate, you can use either, BUT i'd reccomend a Synthetic oil for a w30 rating.
I'm using the Castrol TXT (Softtech) 5w-30 and so far it's been pretty good. Costs abit more than mineral but it's worth it. Also if you plan on going the 15k interval then i say Synthetic is a must.
I will change mine at 7.5k then every 5k with synthetic.

I brought my XR8 new and have been changing the oil every 5000 km and the first time we changed the oil you should have seen the colour of it , it was black. I think Russell W is right if you want to keep your Windsor in good nic every 5 or 10,000 is the go
Woops just realised you own a V8 ignore what i've said as thats for the half dozen engines. :hrm:

Synthetic is better. Any 5W30 to 5W50 will do
Have also used the castrol TXT as well as Shell Ultra,Mobil 1 5w50 and Pennzoil performance 5W40
I change the oil and filter every 5 months
For me that's probably 5,500 km's travelled
russ is on the ball here I reckon with his 5k recommendation. Means a few extra oil changes, but really whats an extra few bucks when youre talking about an engine such as the one in the XR8. If youre mainly doing 'country kays' though, 7,500 kay changes would be ok.
and as GKG mentioned about the first change - do the first at around 1000 kays, 2nd at 5000, then at 5 or 7.5k intervals
cheers,
dave

Sorry guys I should have been a bit more specific.
I bought a new AU3 ute 6 cylinder, I do have an ED XR8 which I change the oil every 5000k's but looking in the owners manual of the AU the service is every 15000k's, so I was wondering if the engine has synthetic oil.
There is no mention in the book so I'm assuming it uses standard oil.

You can use what ever you want but Ford recommends 5w30
But i use 5w40 or 50 as it's just that little bit thicker so when the engine is hot the oil don't go as thin as water
The boss at work has 10 Au patrol cars and he gets Rebel Ford at elizabeth to put in 20w50 and i can tell you the engine's don't run anywhere as good as mine
yesterday one of the cars did a manifold gasket and the car sounded like a V8 powered car with no muffler.
