Im and when I went to school rear wheel drive , large powerfull cars were the only cars to have / be seen in etc , you know XDs & XEs with 302 winsors and 351 clevos with big 15' globeline mags , hq 308s with 5sp dragways and vb ss 308s ...
anyway this past has resulted in me buying a large rear wheel drive , large displacement six cyl FORD FALCON sedan ( think about it the past alters what we become)
What im getting at is the change in australian mage of 'coolness' , nowdays if your 16 yrs old , cool is a turbo 4cyl 4wd subaru , or a lancer with 19' alloys and a 3 thousand $ sound system , but to me my brothers xe 351 loud as a mother****er sedans better than a loud stereo and pretty wheels .........
any way what do you think about the asian motoring influance on the aussie youth of today.......
Problem is these ricey car's are just as fast as fords and holdens and some of them a cheaper too. Was checking out new cars today and saw about 6 R32 skylines for under $12,000. I want a xr6 ED or EF and there $12,000+. So it makes sense to by these small ricey imports cause they are cheap , go hard and handle the road better than a falcon ever will. But hey ive had 2 Big falcons and loved them both.(when they dont stuff up that is 0
I find the reason for the younger generation liking rice is because most, not all, but most don't know shit about cars, and I mean absolutely nothing. You start talken bout a turbo in ur car and everyone is like "hey man, ur the bomb" and seein movies like the fast and furious made them all think that those rice skylines and everything else were king shit. I showed my mums VL to a group of the "cool" people from school and told them it was turbo'd and had NOS, the idiots believed me and thought that an air box was a turbo and the injectors was what gave it NOS.
Not all of us are like this tho, there are alot of people like myself who know there way around a car and are seriously into the heritage of it all and want to see it continue. I would rather have a stocko 8 over a fully riced up blown milk carton
I had a bit of old school/new school interaction tonight. Civic VTiR Vs ED Fairmont 4L(don't be fooled by the mild exterior).
When the lights changed we hung together for maybe a second or two- that is until my rear tyres stopped smoking, and it was all over for the Honda even before I reached for 2nd gear. After i settled down to a legal cruise, he screamed past me, way over the speed limit. A few Ks further on, I caught up to him after he was balked by some more lights, and I took him again after turning into a dual carriage way, powering past flat chat in 2nd gear up a steep climb. At the next turn of, he pulled along side and gave us the finger, and Dharman (my son) and I crack up laughing. He was so pissed off to be done twice!
PS I think the VTiR is a great little car- subtle, no crappy spoilers.
I would get a Clio Sport, or a C32AMG because they are much more than they appear to be.
Last night on the way home there was this fully sikked up Charade that looked like it wanted to have a go. Problem was there were roadworks and only one lane wa open and then there was this big detour. Coming back onto parra road after the detour this guy in the charade happered and I just overtook him. Then I got stuck in a lane of traffic coming onto the freeway, he overtook me sounding like he was going full bore. When he overtook me I decked it and pulled into his lane, caught upto him, pulled into the next lane and overtook him and ended up about 3 or 4 carlengths ahead of him once I reached 120km/h.
Another fried riceboy..
i love my big aussie falcon, but also i've got a small obcession wif european cars, cos it seems there is a little peugeot 205 GTi that is sittin in my back shed, now this is a stock car, and i'm sorry to say it but it woudl cain the SHIT out of my falcon, and many others i suspect, but also its totally stock, and havn't and dont need to do any performance mods to it...
It's all very well and good to hang shit on Excels and stock Lancers, but there is plenty of rice out there that will smoke any EA-ED Falcon.
Stating that todays Aussie youth don't know much about cars is a gross generalisation. Just because there is less interest in 6s and 8s doesn't mean the kids don't know their cars.
Kenaz so true. But alot of "Kids" like cars but dont know shit. I was like that at the age of 16, didnt know the dirrerence between a XD and a XF. And a EA and a ED, but now that i have my car and have fixed alot of shit on it i know alot about cars in general. So what im saying is a soon as you do something you'll know more about it rather than reading it in a magazine.
It doesn't matter than an EA/NA/DA can beat a VTI-R at the lights, as soon as you hit the first corner, the Civic would make ground and pass the EA right there and then.
It's very easy to have a car that can go fast in a straight line, but harder to get one to go in a straight line and handle well.
Regarding Ford heritage, who gives a shit...if you really care than you'd all drive Benz's as they were the first petrol engined cars ever that's heritage!
AS for the R32's heritage, who could ever forget the GTR winning Bathurst and being banned right after.
BTW, well done Kenaz for your unbiased and open minded thoughts
hehehe , Im glad to see the contreversy continues , though some of the replys strayed from the original subject..
IT DOES matter if a brandnew 25/30 thousand dollar flash hatch gets its arse kicked from the lights by an 12 year old 5 thousand dollar EA Falcon hehehe ive done it many times and it shatters the stupid young fools..., people sell there cars simply because they get embaressed in front of there girl or mates...
as for heritage , i dissagree with Air c , I love the history behind the 60 year legend that is the FORD FALCON...
air C, r u a rice boy??????????/? i'm sorry but i give a **** about falcons heritage and its been a gr8 one, just look at the GTHO phayse 3, now that was on mean car, but as u say i didn't corner as well as some jap car, but, i've spend a cupple of dollars on my suspension and i'm very happy, and maby i couldn't keep up wif a integra type R, but i know that i'm very comfortable wif what i've got, wif out spending 40k
ok since this is only a forum and everyone else has there "open minded opinions" i think i mite for a change.
why is everyone being a "hero". stop sucking up 2 rice, this is an ea/eb/ed board, lets discuss how good THESE cars are, i'm so sick of hearing "ohh but the WRX has 160kW". The wrx is as tiny as a mozy, and is TURBO CHARGED, YES turbo charged. falcon = naturarly aspirated, and look wot happened when ford turbo charged AV, they got over 300kw, they detune em!. Falcons have more room so of course there gonna be heavier whcih also means they need a bigger donk.
what about tha late 60's to seventies when nufin could beat a HO, those were tha days, no rice could compete, coz there were no TURBO's.
Im only 17, and a engineering student at present, therefore I tend I to look at vehicles more through an engineering perspective rather that whether its rice or not. Im a big fan of GTR Skylines, simply because they are one of the worlds most sofisticated cars yet can be bought with the same dosh you would spend on a Clubsport Commodore. Then again, I love the Clubsport Commodore, T series Falcon etc etc
Then I look back at cars such as phase 111 GTHO and almost blow a load. Crude as muck, but shit, dont they go fast! In fact, I think my taste in cars has a lot to do with heritage as well as engineering, as well as aural taste (can beat the sound of a cammed V . But then I also love rotaries, hate the sound, but love the ability to screw 500hp out of 1.3 litres capacity.
I guess I just like to base my opinion on cars from a series of personal reasons, i dont pick cars just cos my mates like them or one is cool and hip. I hate the VN commodore cos basically they are a piece of automotive shit, yet I'd gladly own a VR/VS commodore which is based on VN.
I guess this post has little point, but people bagging out someone else for owning something that they dont pisses me off. I do realise its the human thing, and can do some good. Look at V8 Supercars, wouldnt be the great thing they are without that grass roots all aussie beer drinking bloke sticking it up his mates cos he thinks his Ford rips another arsehole out of their Holden.....its classic.
Excuse me for my "Closed Minded Thoughts" on cars. Im allowed to have my ****ing own opinions on cars. And im not '"sucking up to rice", i dont have to suck up to anyone or anything. I dont mind ricey looking cars most of them look sweet its just the drivers which are usually inexperinced 18 year olds smart arses. Hey "i want an ea" as soon as "you get a EA" come back cause your attitude stinks. This board is full of open minded drivers who usually dont worry about what other people drive just what they drive which i think is more important. So until you drive it dont bag it. This board is for EA/EB/ED but that doesnt mean you cant talk about other cars. Not lets all play better.
I am not dissing EA's or falcons at all. I'm just sayign (or trying to) that each car has different strengths and weakness's.
An Ea costs about 5k hey. If you look at another 5 k car from the same period say a 1987 Swift GTI whilst the Ea would kick its butt at the lights the Swift would easily out handle it on the bends.
However, while I'd rather drive the swifty on the bendy roads, I'd be much happier driving the EA from Melbourne to Sydney so it's all about the time and place but yes I do drive a Jap car thaty is considered a hot hatch and I have also driven an EA ghia (who's owner is on this board and created the site) as well as an EF2 XR6 and many other expensive and exciting cars (NSX, GS300 are the best 2).
Yes I do love Jap cars and I hope to purchase a Lexus IS200 or Prelude VTI-R in the long run.
Westy you right -f-in fried rice & napalm'd buffalo.
Todays kids generally are no longer 'petrol heads' as we where when we where kids growing up in V8 world. Eveybody who was everybody drove a bent 8 and if you where a economical miser (like our familiy was) you drove a big 6. Well until that second filthy Japanese invasion came to our shores.
I know my carbs, injectors, cams, timing, trannys' like second nature though Im not even a mechanic. It was once a Father to son thing you used to hang out in your garage (or you mates and check out what was going on). Their world gone down the shithole. Now these days these kids just hang out in nightclubs slamming eckies and go gang banging. These days these In my era (and many before us) you where taught one thing "you don't buy something you carn't fix yourself".These days however its no longer the case. Those Jap cars have got more computer than they have metal. F-in Fast and the Furious all a bunch of horseshit apart from the motorbikes (cool) and the nitro hot-rod in the end. It had a plot from a J-Grade movie. Gone in 60 seconds at least had a better plot and a 429 cobra jet Mustang and a bit more of a plot!
These days kids take their jap ricers to 'auto-salons' to get pooftarised as their too lazy or stupid to fit parts themselves. Their more interested in how big their subwoofer is and the paintjob and mags on their car than if its mechnaically A1 or not. I used to own one I cannot believe people hot up Suzuki Swifts, i owned one ! These homie scabs cannot afford a real car so they hot up a rubbish bin. They designed their cars to small and you carn't fit anything useful let alone a 6fter inside. All their good for is to get a A and B. As for a Falcon its more than that its how you get there as well. My EA has a soul my other think had little more than a dangle of chips and a nippon sticker.
Re: Westy you right -f-in fried rice & napalm'd buffalo.
Im 'young' a petrol head....
And I like big aussie cars...Holden's included, and i keep an open mind about other cars as well...
"Stating that todays Aussie youth don't know much about cars is a gross generalisation. Just because there is less interest in 6s and 8s doesn't mean the kids don't know their cars."
Right on the money Ash..
+ if there wasn't a variety of cars, and a whole lot of people with different thoughts and opinions...what would the Auto industry be?
Re: Westy you right -f-in fried rice & napalm'd buffalo.
Hey Fonz, you brought Granda Henry's EA right? There must be something in that car that makes you talk like that, because if i hadn't have seen your name, I would have sworn grandpa henry wrote that.
Pete
