all gears are fine they all go in and feel nice, but going into reverse it doest like is crunchs into reverse about 1 in 3 times, is it the gear box gone or clutch need adjusting i pump the clutch before i put it in but that doesnt allways work, its not such a bad thing dont use reverse often just wondering if its something to worry bout, will it wreck my drive gear for other gears etc???
Curtis, the pre-EF box (or 4.0 EB, one of the 2) doesn't have synchro on reverse. You have to either be very slow engaging reverse, or put it into 5th first.

Pumping the clutch won't do anything. If your clutch is adjusted properly, and no other gears are grinding, then you are probably just rushing the gearbox a bit. When you go to put it in reverse, keep your foot on the clutch for a couple of seconds, then slot it in.

The reason it does that is because of the lack of a reverse brake. Vehicles built after 1992 had it though. It's applied through the 5th gear synchro sleeve. It stops the rotation of the cluster gear before the reverse idler is engaged, which stops the gear clash.
Mine does it too, so don't worry :) A good way to avoid it is to put it in 1st gear then into reverse, and if you're moving around a carpark or whatever at slow speeds, move around in first gear, then put the clutch in, let the vehicle stop, then you should be able to put it into reverse no problem.
