ok fellas....well basically I drove a CFI EA today that had a T5, and to say that it opened my eyes up was a bit of an understatement, it puts my 3 speed to shame. I can only imagine how a MPFI goes, let alone a XR.

I now desperatly want a manual but at the moment, well atleast untill I start work full time in the summer, I can only plan; so I want to set myself a goal.

So (and MAD_NC8), your gonna love this bit, I have thought about buying a cheapo 5 speed EA-D and then chucking all the goodies from my car over to it.

So basically how much do you think a good example is going to cost? Even if its a CFI, I dont care as I can convert my stuff over.

So my requirements would be an absolutely smicko paint job. I really dont care what colour as long as its good. And a good drivetrain of course.

So what do you think? Should I bother or is it a waste of money and I should save for a better falcon (ie EF/L)? I really like shape and look of the EA-D though, even though they are a bit older and maybe less reliable.

i say get a 5 speed EB GLi, they go for peanuts now, and put all your good bits into it. i quite like the EA-ED shape too.

Put a T5 into your current car, could that work?

you should be able to get hold of a decent EA GL 5 speed for around a grand to 1500 mate..

considering what it would give you with a rust free car it will be money well spent. im sure we would all pitch in and help you to do the re-shell.

when its down to "bare shell" status you can make the decision to respray it. who knows what that will cozt. shouldnt be more than 2 or 3 grand all done i wouldnt imagine

why not buy the car you drove

lol..well its not quite that bad..but yeah the rust situation is not good.

The things i want to keep from my car are:

1. stereo
2. interior
3. tinted windows, including rear (sounds silly i know, its just damn dark so I want them)
4. MPFi stuff if needed
5. rims but I want to upgrade to atleast 16' anyway

Other than that I would strip it and then sell whatever else I dont need or keep it for spares. Well thats the plan anyway.

Id be very interested to know what can do a bare respray for 2-3k!
