My XC ute has a "J" serial number which tells me it was assembled in Melborne. When purchased in 1986 it still had a NSW rego permit on the windscreen which suggests that it had been driven there at some time.
OUESTION -
Do Aussie Fords have some code on the data plate that tells THE AREA for which the vehicle was built?
To explain: U.S. Fords have a "DSO" Code, District Sales Office. DSO's such as Los Angles means the car was built for Calinfornia smog standards and therefore different then those built for Denver (high altitude) Cleveland (600-1000 altitude) etc. Sometimes knowing the original DSO helps explain why the engine isn't running properly (I'd not expect a car from the Cleveland area to run correctly in the mountains near Denver, a Denver car to run rich in Cleveland, etc.)
So I am wondering if OZ had DSO's. My ute seems to be "illogical" in that it has a 2.37:1 rear axle (high speed axle in a ute?) and was equiped with a trailer towing package. The rego permit on the windscreen was from NSW.
Can't see why anyone with chose a high speed axle for a vehicle used in Sidney. Could this vehicle been from the northern part of NSW? (Came with an owner's manula from Sidney area but it was for another car.)
In short no.
The only time there was a difference was in the XD/XE series when NSW cars were equipped with different engines to suit their particular brand of anti pollution laws before they were unified in a national standard.
As for the area it was built,i was told once that the 'JG' meant it was assembled at Geelong in Melbourne..
A 'JH' meant it was assembled in Brisbane ,Queensland
I did forget the "G" in the serial number, my ute was a Geelong assembly.
As fo r the rest of the code, have the factory shop manual and found everything but an explination as to why a "yellow" car is called "Pine and Lime" (Code "Z") which would seem to be green.
Maybe OZ has unhealthy pines and strange limes? LOL!
