I'm new on here, but one of our local used car lots has a red EB Falcon for sale. They are asking $4500, but the lady I talked to said probably $4k for cash. I've applied for a loan but here are a few niggles I've found:
- Cracked instument cluster glass
- 258k kms
- Not much rear wheel tread
- Possibly only 3 months rego (otherwise 1 month left)
- Missing tapedeck/cd player with wires hanging out
- bit of wear on drivers seat (expected with 258k kms)
Good points:
- Appears to be 5sp manual (The gearknob indicates this, but otherwise ???)
- Air-con
- EB Flacon:D
What should I look out for if I take it for a test drive?? I'm only a P plater but I intend to take it on the highway @ 100 or so. What should I look out for in particular? Should I haggle the price more than $4k with the niggles? Any tips on that if so.
the only way to haggle a lower price is stand firm, but be prepared to walk away, there will always be another car.
5sp manual, hop in, and clutch through the gears and count, if you get to 5 + 1 reverse its 5 speed.
258k's is getting to be around normal for an EB
Cracked instument glass can be replaced but you will have to find a donor dash, good new is from gli to ghia the glass (plastic) is all the same.
See how the car feels, drive it like you own it, if it feels good your call, if it feels bad walk away.
Rust, check every where you can think of, under the doors, sills, guards etc.
well missing tape deck, I am guessing you plan on a better stereo.
Downside: you are getting a loan for a car you know already needs improvement and rego, dont forget insurance., make sure you get a road worthy/pink slip so you can transfer to your name without possible further hassle.
Upside: 5 speed manual EB and its a Ford.

I did put something here, but it vanshied, I think
With the e'series cars and i spoze with any, check the engine bay for oil leaks and shiz like that, around the rear seal, specially with the amount of k's on the beast! looks like you'll have to do a bit to it, will you get a didgy roadworthy with the state it is in?
If clutch is heavy check firewall for cracks and state of pedal box...just going by experiences...
I will have my Red_Eb_s for sale this month...5speed and all the shiz...(signiture)
Cheers, Rayos

Sounds very expensive to me. I picked up my ED with 150k km on the clock in perfect nice (except the sump!) for a tad over your price nearly two years ago. Al beit, mine's an auto, but still...

Yeah it does sound a bit expensive, where you from? a major city or more remote area? if your in a major city i would have a look around more as im sure you could get something like that except in a bit better condition, full reg, rwc etc if you look hard enough, dont rush into something like buying a car, take your time
